unlocked GSM phone with TDMA plan?

hi! i have an existing TDMA cellphone and plan with cingular. my friend gave me an unlocked GSM cellphone that will work on the cingular network if i get a cingular SIM card for it.

so, can i just go to a cingular store, buy a GSM SIM card (they're $25 apiece), plug it into my unlocked phone, and use it right away, or do i need to upgrade my TDMA plan to GSM first?

Unhappy

ugh, i talked to cingular. they won't sell me a GSM SIM card unless i "migrate" (upgrade) my call plan from TDMA to GSM.

and i'm guessing that even if i were to somehow get ahold of a cingular GSM SIM card, i wouldn't be able to register it onto the cingular network.

No GSM phones with TDMA

Cingular TDMA and GSM services cannot be overcrossed since they are totally different service systems. So you will not be able to use SM phone with your TDMA service. You have to go with GSM service with your profile, IMEI and SIM card registered into their GSM database.
