exciting new clara revelation !!

3GSM Congress: Sony Walkman – a player? No! A phone by Sony Ericsson [ 01:00 ]

Author: Mineev Ivan Translation by: Anja Rytchkova Send news to friend Discuss in forum

Sony Ericsson has announced its intention to introduce a new phone designed solely for music fans. In this case, I think, one could hardly tell whether it will have more of a phone or more of an MP3-player.

It became know that the device will come out under Sony Walkman brand and will have impressive music opportunities. Particularly, such a phone should be equipped either with much flash-memory or with the integrated HDD. There is still no info. The integrated player will support MP3 and AAC formats. Besides Sony Ericsson is negotiating with music online service Sony Connect to provide music content to the users. Next month there will be more details on the device.

Hmmz ... given the news above ...

my point is

COULD clara be the music phone tt SE has envisioned ?

many expect clara to be announced at cebit on march 1st. my bet is tt clara will be the first SE to feature SD card slot / MS duo slots . this could mean tt clara would be the first walkman phone of SE.

omg

2mpx + SD / MS duo slot + nice screen + mp3 player + nice form factor

the killer phone from SE has arrived

On the one hand, the back of Clara appears to suggest that the focus for this phone is not on the camera, which might mean this is the music phone Mr. Flint's talking about.

Yet Memzee has just revealed to us that Clara will only have 38MB internal memory. Mr Flint has mentioned that whatever phone it is, it'll be able to store 6 to 7 cds, and I think SE would have more sense (I hope) to have this promise delivered within the phone itself, rather than through the cheap tactic of using MSD pro cards.

So my theory is that the Clara will be their high-end cam phone offering, while similar to the surprise that was the K600i, my gut feeling tells me that SE have at least another high-end phone focused on music up their cunning sleeves...

SE using SD cards?

Yeah, you know I think I just saw a pig fly by my window....

Of Course they won't use SD cards! Their SONY Ericsson, notice the SONY part, why in the hell would they use card formats that other manufacturers use when they have their own in house own brand card format? It just would'nt make any logical sense as a business. Sure in an ideal world all phones would have 7-in-1 card readers built in, but it will never happen.

clara isnt hte walkman phone, there will be other series of phones that are though, hopefully with 4gb hard drives.very soon mp3 players and portable digital cameras will be obsolete the way phone technology is going, soon we will have 4gb, 3.2mp 3x optical symbian powered phones and then we wont need ipods and digital cameras anymore. now thats something worth waiting for

the SD card news is defintely correct ...

hmmz shaheen about 4Gb 3.2mpx phones ... i tihnk maybe the 4Q of the year ?

but theres one tihng i am very sure about. notice tt mostly the jap brands , e.g panasonic and mitsu and sharp have featured SD or mini SD slots in their cards ? moto is using transflash , which if i am not mistaken , a deriative of the MMC .

do remember. of all the lot , SD and mini SD cards are the cheapest

a 512 mb SD card costs just USD 30 today. a 512 mb mini SD card today costs about US 35-40...

logically speaking. SD cards / MMC cards ahave broken through a certain cost / capacity barrier , allowing large volumes of storage at cheap prices.

this would mean tt the music phone can be realised. having a 4Gb or 20gb player esp if its HDD on a music phone its quite overkill cos

a) not many people have like 100 albums worth of digital media to stuff into the players
b) power and bulk. HDD drives even the micro ones consumer more batt and eats into power, whereas flash based memory dosent require power .

if we note the current trend of music phones , most of them are using removable storage.

coupled with SE's purchase of the rights to get e right to produce SD cards, this points the way to SE adopting SD cards in its next generation of phones ? the music phones ?

my bet is based on these reasons

1) high capactity to cost ratio of SD and even mini SD cards
2) HDD would be too much a drain on batt and size
3) MS duo and pro duo are overpriced and currently dun exist in large capacities ( pro duo does but its still significantly expensive enough to kill off the "music phone" concept , it is critical to have cheap avaliable large capacity card)
4) SE cannot compete evenly with nokia / motorola if it insists on using a propertairy medium which is too expensive cost wise... a turn off for consumers who want to up the capacity of their phones
