Smile SE K900 uses UIQ 3.0 ???

The new SE K900 (next version of K700) will use UIQ 3.0

P1000 won't come with UIQ 3.0 because UIQ 3.0 only support QVGA display...

but i can't sure about this information...it's still a rumour
but we hope, we'll see SE K900/other UIQ 3.0 handset from SE this autumn 2004

but you can go to www.uiq.com for uiq 3.0 preview...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

UIQ 3.0 – The Evolution of UIQ

The new version of UIQ is improved in several areas and most of the focus has been put into the following three areas:

Several configurations
UIQ 2.1 was designed for phones with large touch screens and pen-based input. In UIQ 3.0, a more flexible architecture has been added, which enables smaller QVGA displays, and support for phones with one-handed use and soft keys. This enables UIQ Licensees to build a product family of phones - on the same code base - with different form factors; small smartphones with soft keys, smartphones for the enterprise market with touch screen, or phones with a combination of both.

Enhanced customization possibilities
Customization of phone software is important for both Phone manufacturers and Network operators; it enables them to promote their brand as well as tailor the phone for different user segments. Therefore, UIQ 3.0 offers a new feature called ‘Operator Configuration Package’ (OCP), which the Phone manufacturer can use, in an easy manner, to customize their phones and they can also use it when customizing for Network operators.
This is a key benefit for Phone manufacturers and enables them to make late changes when targeting multiple operators.

A richer user experience
UIQ has been designed with usability in mind from the very beginning and in the new version, even more effort has been put into this area when designing the new soft key concept. UIQ 3.0 also has richer graphics; Themes are enhanced with the possibility to put skins on components, and further support for animations and semi-transparency has been added as well.

More information about UIQ 3.0 will be unveiled later.

well... the rumour abt sep 22 being the date SE presents some new killer models (including the K900/F700/whatever it's called) came and went and died, and no one's posted any other new info...

sheesh, SE is like the Nintendo of the mobile world; I know they prefer quality to quantity (at least I think so), but the thing is, by the time they DO announce any new stuff, the other companies, Samsung, Nokia, and Motorola, would have announced gazillions of other stuff too! Their models may not be as fully functional as SE's, but by virtue of the sheer variety, and the constant publicity fr the announcement of these phones, they've managed to capture more of the market!

If not for how cheap the T610 is as a cam phone in S'pore right now, I guarantee that SE would def have much less of a presence here... not much ppl appreciate the quality as they've all been had by Nokia, or they're turned off by the relatively high starting prices...

I may not have any vested interests in SE, but I feel worried for them as a loyalist, reading reports abt how Samsung's increasing its market share, and Nokia and Motorola are releasin more models like nobody's business, while SE has been very quiet... TOO quiet!

Sigh, and to think i was actually hopin to see the official launch of K900/F700 by end of the yr...

UIQ is the OS used on touch screen phones. Its an OS like Symbian but for touch screen. K700 and S700 dont run on UIQ.

Wow. UIQ 3 is really pretty. Have you guys seen the latest update to SE's user interface on the V800? They've really outdone themselves this time.

the UIQ 3.0 does have potential. from the thumbnails they look rather plain with the lack of attractive themes though. hopefully it'll be rectified closer to realisation.

Current OS, the Ericsson Mobile Platform (EMP100) used by K700 and S700 are as advanced a UI as we can find on most phones. It allows great flexibility on SE's part to customize to the requirements of their phone models.

The battle for consumers in future will no longer be just designs and specs but also the way the UI is implemented. Personally, I find SE's UI is the best among the brands. It took them a while to develop it (2 years after merger & intro of T610) SE is slow to release newer phones probably due to experimentation of their new models with newer UIs.

Albert, nice picture. Looks very much like a P910 on a diet. Lets see if this is indeed the final design for the rumoured K900.
