been looking at the reveiws for the s700i

has any one seen or heard any news about since its proto-type launch in NY?

do we know how gd a quality phone it actually is? and what networks will use it i.e orange, o2 ?

As you said yourself it is just a proto-type, so I would not consider the quality that overhelming. And I think, despite it's relatively high price, that it's a phone for the public so it'll probably be available anywhere on any network.

Well I know it will be on O2 and Vodaphone, not sure about orange, and as far as I've been told by T-Mobile it won't be avaliable on T-Mobile.
