It sure is.

You need to use the Nokia 3650/7650/N-gage/6600 phones, or the P800.

The software that allows this is made by a company called Psiloc - have a look at the product details here - http://www.psiloc.com/?id=prod&nrp=94

I use this program with my P800 and it works great. Maybe not as good as a standard remote, but pretty good nonetheless.

hi,

yes indeed, it is possible, but only with nokia symbian phones (series 60), like 36/7650 or upcoming 6600, just install total IR Remote prog and you can control tv, dvd, or car radio.

Additional information on following link:

I would imagine that the issue is the IR on a phone isn't designed to work at the distances that a TV remote does...

I used a similar program on my Palm pilot - it was fun to play around with but it got annoying after a while since the range and sensitivity was not as good as the regular TV remote.

(but maybe it was just a problem with the Palm's IR - my friend did the same thing with his PDA and it worked exceptionally well)

I think you're right. The irRemote program works a lot better with my 7650 than my P800....

Umm... yup it works, but only on Symbian phones, i have a nokia 7650 and i downloaded @ a shop in the philippines on it, i tried to do the same for my 7250 but the woman at the shop said it wont work, so i am currently using the IR remote for my TV @ home ... careful abt getting into trouble tho! i went to a tv shop with my friends and we had fun changing the channels on the Tvs there and then we turned all of them off and got kicked out! turns out theres a sign saying do not change chaennels, didnt see any tho!
