Unhappy Panasonic X300

The Panasonic X300 is a strange thing.. it's got a flip-out viewfinder like a digital camcorder. The only problem is that the rest of the phone is rubbish. It's almost as if Panasonic were living in a time warp 12 months ago.. they've burdened the X300 with a VGA camera and what appears to be a titchy little screen... sigh.

Come on Panasonic, you can do better than this!

Re: Panasonic X300

Definately a weird phone. And it's more expensive than the Siemens CX65!

Panasonic as a manufacturer isnt coming up fast. Like sharp, SE, Samsung, MOTO are giving NOKIA a tough time.

Yes, but that puts them in the same boat as Sharp, who put in a *lot* of effort on their phones from a technical point of view (even if they're not as pretty as Panasonic). I believe that both Sharp and Panasonic use their own screens and cameras rather than buying them in, for instance, but the difference is huge.

But.. and this is a big but.. the phones tend to look quite pretty and they sell on looks alone. And if they're selling, well, then why should Panasonic care too much? Panasonic have about a 5% market share worldwide on this basis, which is not too bad I suppose.

Getting a little back on topic, the X300 is a very poor phone indeed with a crappy display and digital camera. Panasonic's unique selling proposition with this pretty much amounts to putting a hinged display in and moving the camera on to the site. Yes, it looks impressive at first glance, but of course it's rubbish. Now.. if it had the Sharp GX30's camera and display then it would ROCK.

Yeah Samsung make everything from electronics to ships. Although frustratingly they don't seem to do Bluetooth and phones tend to be dual band, they're still better than Panasonic.

In fact, it's hard to think of a manufacturer that produces less interesting phones. The odd thing is that the phones Panasonic make for the Japanese market seem to be really good. Go figure.

Yeah, Samsung (I believe) wasn't part of the original Bluetooth group, so they had to design and make their own (and just recently completed, which is why we havn't seen Bluetooth in Samsung phones yet...).
