lg k800 chocolate - bluetooth

Is the bluetooth (connecting to handsfree/headset) really as bad as in the mobileburn review of the LG Chocolate KG800?

As i said in the review, I could never get it to work reliably (or at all, in most cases). I would also love to hear other's opinions on this, see if it is a general problem.

you're correct brad. it seems to be a general problem with the phone.

i use bluetooth for sony and nokia handsfree carkits. i have previously used the carkits with a nokia 8800, sony k750i, nec 412i and samsung e720 and had no problems.

it will pair with the bluetooth accessory but will not sync/connect with it again. it doesn't seem to matter what you are trying to sync/connect with whether a laptop, headset or carkit unless you go into the phone menu and select connect with the accessory you have paired with. it doesn't matter if the phone is discoverable or authorised. it defeats the purpose of having blutooth if you need to select connect from the phone menu when you jump into the car. it should be automatic.

i have taken the phone back to lg and they have a software up-date for the phone (it took them a while because it was the first one in australia to have it done and they needed to talk to the technical department o/s whilst doing it).

it fixed a few issues with the phone like displaying the area where you are from your service provider but it didn't fix the bluetooth problem.

the lg service manager also asked that i bring the phone back to them around the 31/07/06 to get the bluetooth components changed as they were being shipped from overseas. it seems that there have been others with similar problems and the manufacturer has seen a need to replace them as customers come in with similar issues.

so austin if you plan to buy this phone and hope to use bluetooth on it wait until lg have fixed the problem from the factory. otherwise you might pull you hair out.

i'll let you know if the firmware update fixes the problem when i get the phone back.

great review brad. wish i had read it earlier. i would have held off on the purchase for a little while until the problem was rectified. should have remembered to never buy the first version of anything and wait for the 1st or 2nd revision to come out.

I have the same issue
Received my LG K800 phone last week and now can`t connect it to my incar kit. The carkit worked fine with my nokia no problems. The LG pairs but connects and then disconnects continually every 20 seconds. its a pain.

Well, I guess its good to know that it isn't an isolated problem. Be sure to let us know what happens when you get the Bluetooth hardware changed.

yes, with certainty the chocolate phone has a problem with the stock firmware for the bluetooth functionality. my friend here in Portland just got one and i couldnt get his bluetooth to work. i wanted to send him a bunch of ringtones and wallpapers from my w800i (which i do all the time with other friends) but the phone keeps saying it wont accept a file. i can search, find, and create a bluetooth connection but i cannot actually send files.

LG users should keep an eye out for the public firmware update.

guys just a quick update.

i have just dropped the phone off to lg. depending on your service provider or who you bought the phone off ie telstra, vodaphone etc, they will change the complete motherboard to rectify the problem. if you are with optus you will have to wait for another couple of weeks before they get them in from korea and do an exchange. they will see if this fixes the problem. i hope it does.

keep you upto date.

just got my phone back from lg. very professional and quick in their service. they have changed the mother board with the corresponding bluetooth components. a new serial number is given to you as well as a new imei.

the report is that the bluetooth problem seems to have been fixed. all normal services expected from the phone now have finally been fixed. connection and syncing to other devices using bluetooth seems to have been resolved. this is how the phone should have been when i purchased it.

i'll keep you upto date if there are any other issues. hopefully none.
