Question + Nokia 6708 Fisrt Nokia UIQ based phone was approved by the FCC!

Nokia 6708 FCC approved

The first Symbian smartphone from Nokia that runs under UIQ platform was approved by the FCC.

However there is no official confirmation if the device will be offered in USA or Europe, actually as we know Nokia have shown 6708 last mount in PT/Wireless and Networks Comm - China 2005 and it was announced only for Asian markets, but after it already scored the FCC approval it can be used in the US!??

New Nokia 6807 running under Symbian OS v7.0 / UIQ 2.1 platform and offer features like a 1.3 mega pixel camera with flash, SD slot, MP3 player, QVGA touch screen, and weighs-in at 5.3 ounces. At 4.6 x 2 x 0.7-inches it’s both narrower and thin.. ...

Seems a bit dated, especially compared to the P990, but I guess being that it's Nokia's first stab at UIQ, it's a big step? Maybe it's the start of things to come...perhaps a REAL SE Pxxx contender??

imo the original Benq P31 looks better than this rebranded one

I see that you guys took off the front fascia...can the P31 fascia fit on it, or is it a completely different chassis?

Isn't this a "china-only" model? Looks kinda' bland... and boring. Not to mention, big. But I think that I'll wait for the next model to come along before I get excited about nokia's venture into UIQ.

cheers!

I concur! I'm hoping at least on par with the P990, but adding 3G and WiFi

Maybe then I'll explore UIQ

It seems dated because it is designed to be low-cost for the Chinese market. An FCC approval is in no way an indication of a US release.

Is China not an Asian country? Trust me, I doubt we will see this outside China, and maybe places like Malaysia. And it isn't on all the Asian region sites, I just randomly picked the Philippines site and there is no mention.

Great, now look at the list of Asian sites that DO NOT have it listed - Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines... Care for me to go on? The point I am trying to make is that you stated that it is listed on ALL the Nokia Asia sites, which it is not. It IS listed on emerging market Asian sites, India and Singapore, along with China, are emerging markets. Don't make sweeping statements when they are incorrect.
