INFO NEWS

Just received some info from Nokia N-Series (WOM World) - I'm not sure I'm meant to be saying anything right now  (haha - taken off the trip before even starting) we are technically named "web 2.0" leaders who will be able to share to 'our' online audience (I guess that's a yes to being allowed to share info) and there are 8 of us.

...continues reading email...

crap - it seems there's gonna be a film crew consisting of an N93 equiped team to follow us! Wow - lol Apparently they'll also equip us with N93's if we wanted to create our own Vegas Diary! (I was planning on doing that anyway - haha - feel better now if my memory cards I ordered will not arrive by tomorrow -HMMM I wonder - If it's a black N93 If they will let me swap!!! ooooh!)

Here is info for Day 2

brad 01-07-2007 09:22 PM

Heh - everything Monday will bring? I'm so glad I can finally tell everyone about the new N76, N93i, several new Samsungs, Sony Ericsson W880 and W200, among other things. And its only Sunday!

Anyway, back into conference mode, watch the MB event page for more.

carcomptoy 01-07-2007 10:42 PM

I'm so excited about the N76 and N93i!! Especially the first one...I don't know if I'm ready to let go of QWERTY and WiFi, but I've been craving for a thin phone lately!!

Jose_R.A.M 01-08-2007 04:08 AM

Sorry i haven't updated sooner - left laptop back home:( but now i'm broadcasting via n93(5th attempt, last got foiled by the annoyin proximity of the delete and end buttons)

If seeing the vegas strip in person amazement enough, over evening drinks, i got to unexpectedly play with the jack of all trades n95, the super slim, unbelievably sexy (and s60) n76 and that rather nice lookin internet tablet n800.

i and the others were highly impressed. N95 although has a slight wiggle in the slide when opened in portrait, functionality overall is seamless. N76 is a damn beautiful phone. It looks very sophisticated, and actually looks good in twotoned black and silver!(was my pet hate as its often done poorly...) very nice keypad, v3 but better.

i was asked to do a video blog of my first impression of these devices , particulary of the tablet device(even keepin it overnight) but i haven't slept in ages (not since friday night ) and we got to leave for the big event in a few hours time so another dude has them...although now i wish i hadn't given it to him cos i would have been done posting this by now(very very hard, tEmprimntal n93).

i'll try and post pics when i work out how to get them off my digi cam. I have vids too but not sure how to video upload via phone.

i read brad's article on n93i...i can't wait to see it later! So i'll get an hour or two before the big tech kick off!

difenbaker 01-08-2007 04:46 AM

exciting stuff! Post pics asap! thanks!

Jay Jay 01-08-2007 08:53 AM

yes do post photos!!!

mweb6161onMB 01-08-2007 09:04 AM

Thanks for the info Jose ram, Mobileburn site and forum producing some class leading coverage of CES:hello2:

You're so lucky!! I'm really determined to get the N76...I'm tired of sacrificing form for function. For the N76, I'm ready to give up the QWERTY keyboard and Wifi!

Not to bad mouth anyone, but this is really true! It's pathetic how InfoSync hasn't posted ANYTHING yet about the new Nokias!

Right on! it's what many have always longed for - the versatile functionality within a small sophisticated and exquisite package.

imo it's gonna be one of nokia's best sellers in 2007. it's undeniably got some of the iconic razr v3 shape - but with the brains and brawn of some of the latest s60 devices.

when i get back later, i'll try post some sample pics. and illuminating comments from one of it's designers

i have pics n info -it's just very hard to

a. post with phOne pad
b. get pictures from camera

should have some free time midnight so i'll try post it via this n800. at least it doesn't exit when my thumb misses the delete/c button or crash. :p

wil updaTE on what happened later too, but we all have to go some place in 20 mins and i have to get ready.

Michael 01-11-2007 06:23 AM

Are there really no photos of Eldar? I run into him a couple of times a year. I'll have to remember to snap a pic next time I see him.

mweb6161onMB 01-11-2007 06:33 AM

He is very elusive, i have 3 contacts at Moscow office who see him regularly but i assure no photo exists on our site, or indeed on the web.:D

Jose_R.A.M 01-11-2007 02:44 PM

Guess who's back? Back again?

Jay is back. Tell a friend! lol.:p

________________

So sorry for the big delay in picture sending - several technical difficulties which have now been fixed (I tried uploading video from N93 - zipping it etc etc but it didn't woprk as you can tell it didn't work)

Keep watching this thread as it will be filled up with quite a few pictures of the event, starting from the moment I got to the airport.

(Hey brad, I was gonna ask if it was possible to lift the 5 picture per message rule in the near future?)

I will be writing up some first impressions of the 3 newly announced N-series and posting them up soon.

Jose_R.A.M 01-11-2007 04:02 PM

CES: backdate update

Here are some photos of 07-Jan-07 to ...well maybe today.

I missed out quite a few photo moments because I took video of them instead. But I'll try to locate them on the web from other members.

BA 289 - London to Vegas (Via Phoenix - Vegas on America West)

Since I was so skeptical and left confirmation so late, Frank (explain who Frank is later) said that I was unfortunately on "British Airways". I didn't get what he meant at the time - I thought he was dissing BA which I actually liked. Later I was informed that the majority of the WOM World group had a direct flight from London to Vegas on Virgin Atlantic - so it cleared that up. ^_^

Rafe Blandford - allaboutsymbian.com

This is Rafe, another straggler of the Virgin Atlantic gang. He is the Founder, Owner and Editor in Chief of allaboutsymbian.com. He's also the first person I met on this trip, and it was such a welcome breeze to listen to someone with such infinite passion and wiki-like knowledge on symbian phones and consequent technology.

I was very fortunate that he too missed out on the Virgin Atlantic because he's a seasoned pro when it comes to travelling in the US - he helped make a seamless and fun filled journey, with illuminating insights on the beginnings and running of his website and the current affairs of mobile phone life.

Anssi Mäkelä - Darla Mack - Sexy Surprise

This was taken about a couple of hours after checking into the Flamingo Hotel. We all met up for drinks at the bar and in the corner of my eye, I see Nokia's "Campaign Manager, eMarketing Multimedia", Annsi take something that startled me out of his jeans...which Darla could not resist but take hold of!

No no no not that.:p

It was the ever beautiful N76! We all got very excited, since we had thought we were not going to see this till the following morning.

Michael Hell, Multimedia Heaven:

If the N76, lack of sleep and some double vodkas weren't enough combination to make your head spin and your heart palpitate, the N800 and N95 were also whipped out on the table!

Symbian Freak's moderator BeerBong (who btw is an awesome guy, spent a lot of time with him during the trip - he's great!), aka Michael and I were just completely dumbfounded at getting this unexpected early hands on experience with the ultra popular feature packed N95 and the 'out of the blue' internet tablet N800.

BTW - guys and gals, does anyone here know how to make a template for watermarking pictures? MH had one sent from his 'Leader' TEO, AKA Apocalypso.

I know how to make one impromptu style (layering transparent text, but it takes a lot longer than how I saw Michael use his template with PS)

carcomptoy 01-11-2007 04:45 PM

*sigh* You're so lucky!!!

Jose_R.A.M 01-11-2007 05:39 PM

Meeting with Nokia Reps/Product Manager

(I'm switching between two pic upload sites because I.S. is playing up - but when I can, I prefer to have thumbnails so people with slower connections have can view thread effectively)

Nokia N800: Taarja

Here we had the opportunity to question Nokia Product Manager (Convergence Products Business Program) Tarja Määttä.

I'll try to get hold of the audio recording from a couple of the guys if any of you are interested. I'll probably be mentioning the same things in my N800 'first impressions' that I'm gonna write A.S.A.P. so I will leave details there.

But I'll post some pics to give you an idea of what was happening then.

Nokia N93i: Aoki

Sorry for the blur. I was simultaneously filming with an N93 and wasn't paying much attention to the camera

Kazuto Aoki flew in from Japan to chat with us about the N93i.

This was our first time in seeing the N93i (lol, I would have been more excited about seeing the n800 but we already saw it the day before ;p)

Aoki explained to us the 'improvements' of the new device, whilst my N93 became temperamental and crashed multiple times at the sight of it's "successor" (which embarrassed Aoki quite a bit)

Apparently, this maybe included in the next browser:laughing1:

I felt bad asking him questions I knew answers to, like why it's no good compared to N73's pics in over all situations. But it was nice to see 'official answers' even though I didn't really like them.

btw: Darla - you rock!

Haha, she's soooo hilarious, just bubbling with fun! And that who looks like who game...WKD!

BeerBong 01-11-2007 05:44 PM

lol i've completely forgot about those pics hehe ..
but let me give something back to you jay :) because i can see you smile when you have a look on that picture hehe ..

EDIT: WHAT??

Black Tent of Unadulterated Smart Phone: The N-Series Tent

Just when I was thinking, "How could things get any better since we've seen all the new Nokia Devices", my question got answered when we proceeded towards this massive bin-liner-like structure...

...and what's better than seeing a brand new N-Series device? Seeing a whole bunch of them!

but not just like that...in action too.

Hmmm - seems that I've missed the "in action" shots by taking videos instead again. Well these are at least "on"...

Some pics won't upload for some reason - they corrupt half way through.

Anyway...here's at least one in action.

Darla's got an excellent version of this.

Tent of N-Series: Handsets Modelled: N800, N76, N95,

I remember everytime at a launch there's always the girls holding the devices so I thought I'd follow suit and borrow them for taking shots with.

Thanks both to Deb and Laura for moddelling the phones, very good sport and accomodating to how they were to pose. (I think Laura thought she was only hand moddeling, as you will see in pics why)

Debra and N800

Laura N76

What a sexy sexy sexy handset :-D

Laura N76 Black

What a lovely pair! Quite a nice handful!

Nokia 770 and Nokia N800

Small but perfectly formed pair.

What remarkable things come in small packages! I bet quite a few would like a hold of the left one (below)

I have no worries about the N95 delivering.
  • GPS works a treat
  • Camera is superb
  • Seamless transition from any modes
  • Vibrant, functional, delicious UI.
Whether it will be released with minimal bugs, I'm not too sure. But unless it kills basic functionality, I think people can wait for the next fw update (if it does need one)

Andy 01-12-2007 11:33 AM

are there any gps maps for nz yet? I seem to recall the car manufacturors having problems because of that (so they didn't bother with sat nav). But I thought that was a while ago, surely it's been fixed by now.

Jose_R.A.M 01-12-2007 11:48 AM

Apologies for delay in other pics, just writing up about the N800.

Ralph Nokia VP in the CES insider speech introduced to us the N95 it's GPS functions.

"Maps are cached to the device over the air/wifi/pc application... most ubiquitous maps on any mobile device, over 100 countries covered basically any electronic map you can find will be used in this solution"

I guess that's NZ covered.
