Hi there, have really wanted a nokia 7610 and have finally purchased one from ebay...There is one slight problem, the phone is unlocked to all networks which is great, after I inserted my orange pay as you go sim the phone is now asking me to enter a lock code which I know nothing about becuase ive never used a lock feature on my sim or old phone, trying to contact the original owner with slow process, has anyone got any ideas about this problem?

Try 12345.
If it doesn't work, you need to call the person from whom you purchased the phone for him to give you the lock code which he has edited.
If you can't contact him, you need to get your phone flashed...

It wouldn't need to be flashed, just a reset to 12345. ;)

And how would you do it if he can't even turn on the phone? :)
it needs to be flashed.

It doesn't need to be flashed, as I've said it just needs a reset to 12345, I can do this in 5 seconds with an unlocking clip.

No he can't dude.
You have an option on Series60 phones to lock the phone when you change the SIM card.
Now he is using is Orange ship and when he turns on the phone, he gets a prompt to enter the lock code.

Ok ok :)
When I said "It wouldn't need to be flashed, just a reset to 12345. ;)" I ment he wouldn't need to get into the security settings of the phone to reset it, I ment the phone can be reset to 12345 without getting into those settings.
You said "And how would you do it if he can't even turn on the phone? :)
it needs to be flashed." I taught you ment he couldn't actually turn the phone on, to which he could do, so that's what through me off.
KarimNo

Yes, this option is on 99% of all Nokia handsets not just Series60 phones.
Hope that clears up things :)

i tried entering 12345 before i got hold of the right code from the previous owner, 12345 does not work when a previous owners code is in place, period.
If i didn't have the original owners code, then the only way of sorting the problem would be to send it back to nokia to have it cleared, "flashing"?

Yes, that is correct.

No, that is wrong, flashing the phone will not reset the code to 12345.
Flashing the phone will have no effect on the security code.
Here is a reading from a Nokia service device reading a Nokia 3510i

Done!
Where you see the user code in red is the security code.
Now I'm going to change it to 54321;
Before I change it - Here (http://tinypic.com/5zo3tt)
The process to read the code is;
1. Tick the "User Code Edit" box.
2. Click on Service.
3. Click on "Read Code" - if you want.
4. Write a new code or just use the read code to get into the phone manually.
After I change it - Here (http://tinypic.com/5zo7rs)
The process to change the code is;
1. Just type in 5 to 10 numbers and click on write, I used 54321 for this example.
Here is what the phone reads now after I changed the code to 54321;

No need to flash the phone at all. This process takes about a minute and I have a portable device that can reset the code to 12345 in 5 seconds.
A very simple process !

Hi,
I've just got a 7610 and changed the lock code, and somehow messed it up (it's not what I thought I entered!)
Now I need to ask - when will I need the code ?
Reading here, it seems I'll need to find an authorised nokia service centre, is there a directory on nokia's site because I can't find it !
Thanks, finally how many times can I try the thing ? I know it will lock for 5 mins after so many attempts but can it lock me out completely ?

the lock code, you should beable to enter as many times as you like and it will not lock you out at all (my experience).
If you forget the lock code, you can, if you want, reset the phone and the lock code will return to 12345. Again, by my experience.

How do I reset the phone ? Sorry ! Really new to this phone,
Re PUK,
The PUK code is required for the sim1 or sim2 pins, I've not messed these up ! Although I have already got the puk codes incase I do something stupid in future !
I'm on O2 in the UK, and they have a PUK code calculator on their website, it's specific for the SIM I believe, not the phone.

Thanks,
Sorry I do usually use the search however I found it hard to for this query as I didn't know what to search for, I'm sure you'll appreciate searching for lock brings back mostly results about unlocking the phone for networks.
Luckily I've managed to work out what I changed it to, it looks like I hit the wrong button twice when changing it from 12345!
However I have also searched for master reset and made a note of this as it may be handy in future - thanks

_____________-
Series 60
On a Series 60 v1 based phone (N-Gage, 3650, 7650), two key sequences will allow to restore your phone to a cleaner state: Normal Reset (*#7780#) : Restores ini files from rom but preserves user data (photos, 3rd party apps etc)
Deep Reset (*#7370#) :
This reformats completely the C: drive. All applications and files stored on this drive will be lost and clean default files will be rewritten.
In both case, the phone will ask you a confirmation and you will have to enter a security code (12345 by default).
Files and applications stored on E: drive are not be affected by these sequences.
On newer Series 60 phones (6600/6620/7610), the sequence is slightly different:
power the phone off,
press and keep down (simultaneously) the keys green/talk + ’3’ + ’*’, - power on the phone.
release the keys when the formatting starts.
________-
one time i posted it but i still had to rewrite it step by step for this guy. lol.
