Faster overall browsing.. especially in Games folder - games load faster.
Faster zooming and browsing of thumbnails.

My K750i has always been stable, and hasn't crashed once, so I can't comment on any stability fixes. I also seem to be having problems connecting to GPRS now, which seems to be specific to O2 branded phones.

my K750i never crashed on standby mode(when the screen saver/clock is on), but my brothers crashed and all he can do is remove the battery, then put it back in and turn on the phone. does this firmware fix that problem?

I tried to update the firmware. I tried to do it but it didnt work. I downloaded the USB drivers ok as far as i know. The PC suite downloaded fine from the CD.

It says 'how to install the PC Client' which i presume is the upgrade. But when i try to update i get as far as the License Agreement which i obviously accept. The next screen says 'Download and install the client application' but when i click on 'Next' nothing happens. The next page is blank as if waiting to open a web-page but nothing happens even after 10 minutes.

Anyone know what im doing wrong?

No, update will not erase the phone and R1A044 is the original (old) FW. I can however recomend waiting until next week with the update since it seem there will be another one by then fixing the GPRS problem a lot of K750 users have had with the update (mainly O2 users, seems to relate to operator specific firwares).

same thing happens to me, and I have installed update service USB driver. The installation of the driver went fine.

But then when I go to SE Update Service (in SE Global Support site), it only went as far as the checklist of what is required (e.g. Pentium 133 MHz, phone connected to PC, Battery fully charged etc.).

After I check them all, click "next", then nothing happened. Blank where the checklist was, and the header and left and right column (menu and product search) are still there. Waited for probably 10 - 15 minutes, but still nothing.

I have done this 3 times already within the last couple of days, always the same. What gives?

1. Does it take long to download? Coz I'm on a 56K dial-up modem.

2. It possible to download via Mac computer?

Installation instructions
1. Download the zip file to your computer. Remember where you put it.
2. Unzip the file to a temporary folder.
3. Turn off your phone.
4. Connect the USB cable to the PC but not to the phone.
5. Hold down the 'c'-key and connect your phone to the USB cable.
6. This will start the Windows Found New hardware wizard that will be used during the installation.
7. Follow the instructions in the wizard; choose to "Install from a list ..", then press "Next".
8. Browse to the temporary folder created under step 2 above to point to the driver to install, then press "Next".
9. When the driver is installed, press "Finish".

Also, turning off your firewall and in some cases Norton Antivirus (and other Norton security tools) if you have them started. Also check you don't have any security settings in your browser such as pop-up blocker that may interfere.

Did you properly dismount the device? Windows mounts this as an external storage device and without even thinking about it, I simply unplugged my phone from the USB cable the first time and wondered why my system didn't detect it again until after a reboot. I now do the whole "Safely remove hardware" and have had no problems since.

Yeah everything properly dismounted. When i ran the computer in Safe Mode it didnt turn off.

Its deffinetly software, because it only happens when im logged in or when im at the login screen.

If you refer to the Java thing, its because SE update service is based on Java.

I just update mine with R1J002. It works fine (finally, after sevaral tries and always ended up in blank after I click "Next" after checking all the list). So, this is what i have figured out ---
You (your computer) need :
1. Sun Java JRE version 1.4.2 or later (the latest is 1.5.0.02), download from the java site, 15 MB (microsoft java VM on IE did not cut it, at least not on my PC)

Now the upgrade can continue beyond the checklist.

2. After that you will be asked to download and install PC-Client seus_xxxx.exe (a bunch of number). Download from SE, 11 MB

Then,

3. The firmware download, on a 56kbs dialup connection it took roughly 1.5 hours (yikes!)

So all in all, if you only have 56kbs dialup connection, the total time for the upgrade is 1.5 hour for Sun Java + 1 hour for SEUS (SE update service PC Client software) + 1.5 hrs downloading firmware update + some 15 minutes of uploading the f/w to your phone.

Just a friendly heads up for those looking for upgrade through dialup. It is probably better to let your local SE service center do it for you.

Oh, by the way, it does seem faster, all the improvement mentioned on previous post are all true (browsing and games are faster, double beep on autofocus lock). My k750i works fine on R1A044 (no crashes bug etc.), and now it is a bit faster on the R1J002 and still no bug. But i think it is just too little improvement for 4 hours on the dial-up.

If your phone has crashes bug or any other bugs, it may be worth a try.

Just so everyone knows... When they say hold the "C" button, they actually mean the one on the PHONE. I kept holding the one on the keyboard and was wondering why nothing worked. lol! They really should have made it clearer.. I wasted 20+ mins figuring it out. After the firmware upgrade, I definitely noticed that the phone was FASTER. It loaded everything faster, and startup was definitely faster. Now if the phone doesn't have any more freezes.. it will finally become the perfect phone. ;)

i have DSL so no prob with slowness.

so far im very happy, the K750I is definately the best phone SE has ever put out! *thumbs up to SE*

im testing the MP3 playback(headphones) and the voice calls through ear piece....is it it a bit louder or am i imagining things? btw most of my MP3s are sampled at 192 or 320.

also i noticed that viwing the pics in horizontal mode and zomming into them is a little laster, not as laggy as before, which is a cool imporovement.

also another improvement i noticed is that he cursor is faster that it used to be(it was fast before anyways), now it's even faster! :)

that's all i noticed for now. can someone share other improvements that i have missed?

yah man, im seriouse, the K750i is a great phone, compared to the horrendous experience i had with the S700, which was more show than function!

it only shows to people that i like both SE and Nokia. some people though i was bashing SE when i started to complain about the S700, but my reasons were based on facts and not being biased!

my only small complaint with the K750 is that i wish the messaging can be stored on the MS(i have an Mpd 1GB) :) ....last i checked my Nokia messaging(which was stored on the MMC, had 350 messages and counting! with the K750i i could get make 60. now messaging is not important to me, but the fact i keep getting the "your inbox is full, please delete your messages" once a week seriously ticks me off! ya dig? :)

anyways, like i said IE worked better with me, but that might not be the case with others.

i have to call my bro in paris and give him step by step instructions on how to update his K750i since his hangs on the screen savers screen. the only thing he can do is take the battery out! :(

oh well.

any word on another F/W for the K750i?

also how does the Z800i compares to the K750i besides the clamshell design, 1.3MP and 3G. any other differences?

never tried that, but i never cared for video playback on mobiles to be honest. the 2MP cam is where it's at! :)

also, is there way i can convert full length movies to 3GPP on my K750i with good quality? doesn't the PC Suite that comes with the phones do that? i need someonething can give me higher videobit rate for good quality. and is it or the full screen on the 750i is not truly full screen? :confused:

1. Does you phone still hang or freeze? What happens when you take a photo and immediately send it thru MMS, is it okay now?

2. Is the volume of the speaker now louder than it was before?

3. Does the multi-character phonebook search work?

4. Can you now have different ringtones tones for each profile?

5. When you're listening to songs, and you put in say, 5 songs, for example on the memstick. Then you sort them out accdg to artist. The next time you use the media player - does it stay the way you sorted them out? Or does it stay the way you put them in the memstick?

6. Has the phone's audio quality been improved?

7. Lastly, when the you change the message alert tone (with an mp3), then turn the phone off then on again - does the phone use that message alert tone when you receive a text message?

4. not sure on that one, but my answer is no. BUT you can assigne different ringtones for different contacts!

5. i do a playlist and dump different CDs in diffeent playlists. i know this doesnt answer ur question, but all the track i played(mainly mix house/techo) all played in the right order. there is a one seconds gap between each track and the other(depends on how the CD was recorded. but for mixed, it doesnt play continuous(like the iPod) it doesnt bother me....specially you if your not listen to mixed music.

6. phone audio quality is the same, i still prefer my Nokia sound, but the SE K750i one is good. couod have been better, and i wish they increased the loudness.

7. dunno what you mean. but if the MP3 message tone was in the phone memory then u should have no problem. if it was on the MS and you removed the MS, it would go back to default message/ring tone/wallpaper(Assuming all were on the MS). i just copy everything to phone internal memory, specially wallpaper, message rings and phone ring tones.

got a tip from another site... that the multi-character search function is regional dependent. I think asian firmware, or the asian region, does NOT have this? While the european firmware/region - does have it? So better double-check where your particular phone was made.

Yah, I know how you must feel! Just the other day, my girl friend sold her 2 week old K750 that she had bought in from HK - because the phone didn't have this feature. At first, she tried to find a shop, or somebody, who will flash her phone with european software - but she couldnt find any. Just think, on the letter A alone - she has over 35 names listed, just imagine how long and inconvenient it is to scroll thru all that. So now, she's looking to buy another k750, a european phone this time. But if unsuccessful, she's going back to using a Nokia.

I went for a K750 on Orange, and like Vodafone-branded ones I can't use the update service, it says "your provider does not allow the use of this service" :(

So I'm stuck with R1A004, but fortunately mine seems very stable. Been using the device for three days now and not one freeze at all! Best phone I've ever used :D

Thanks to clear this up. I have been feeling really stupid this last three weeks trying to figure out how to get the multi-char search to work. So it must be because mine is asian market. It was same with K700. Some language packes had multicharacter search (like EU versions). Others did not have it (like chinese/asian versions). Beats me why such difference (perhaps its easier to implement for some character sets than others).

Firmware updates really needs to be more user friendly. They should just let people upload the file via the USB cable to a certain directory and update it via the phone.

But it's worth it once you updated the fw, my phone hasn't crashed since! On the other hand.. video quality looks like it got down graded.

Both R1J and R1L suffers from degraded bit rate when recording video clips with the camera (= degraded quality). The bit rate has for some reason been lowered from 192 Kbps (or something like that ) to 62 Kbps (or something like that). Don't ask why since nobody knows.

Im just guessing.... but maybe the reason why they did this is because the supposed better quality of the upcoming CCD camera will make up for the reduced quality?

Or maybe the processor needs to be freed for more power-hungry apps?

In any case, I think most wouldn't mind having this, since R1J fixes the hanging and freesxing bugs. Also, I dont think people would buy a k750 for its video recording feature... the single best-selling thing on the phone is its photo-taking ability.

well video is no biggie for me since i only use still chots that look AMAMZING!(were they affected by the F/W by any chance?)

for Video i would wait for the next bach of Nokia's N series(not the current one where i could record in QCIF) :)

Ive just tried to install the latest firmware for SE's website, and after reading some of the comments here, it start off fairly well. However I came along a problem nearer the end, which I still have no idea what to do about.

Here's what happened

After the install of the 12MB file and continuing with the installation a window popped up (java window) about Proxy settings.

- Couldnot connect to the sever. If you use a proxy, please specify it below. If you do not know, please contact your system administrator or ISP. (then theres a box for an address and a separate box for a port).

I have no idea what to put in there, Im runnng Win XP SP2, F-Secure internet security 2005 and have a Linksys WAG54G firewall router modem connected by a ethernet cable.

If anyone could help, I would be very grateful.

Also has anyone experience a static noise in the headphone between songs both during skipping and playing?

However I was unable to update due to my operator (Orange) not allowing it (Bastards).

Anyone know if the recovery mode will erase operator and produce a true SE phone?

anyway, I was mainly thinking of the price... it's like getting a w800 (with all its capabilities) without that orange color, without that ugly lens cover at the back, and without that more expensive pricetag.

risk? yeah, well the mere fact that the owner is willing to subject his phone, to such a drastic change in the first place, is probably an indication that he's willing to take risks. Or that an invalid warranty means nothing to him.

5) While playing mp3, the song name will be display on screen
6) Mp3 can be sort by singer, album, song name

The mp3 playback sound / photo shot quality is not different as K750

Plus i have purchased the K750i myself, and received it yesterday. Everything is so far working properly (without upgrading F/W) but I am having a problem with my computer when i disconnect my K750i my computer all of sudden restarts every single time.

This problem doesnt occur on anyone elses computer except mine, does anyone know what the problem could be?

I have the same problem. Whenever I disconnect the phone the computer briefly displays a blue screen then resets. When it restarts it says windows has recovered from a serious error. This happens even if I safely disconnect the hardware and it happens on two of my computers.

This is the second time I am writing this because my webpage didnt load properly and my whole 15 minutes write up/instruction went kaput.

So, here's what I have discovered from my 1.5 days on running around and trying to update the firmware from SE without any success. Always stuck at the progress bar 0% althought the software have already been downloaded into my notebook.

Checklist :

1. Update your Java to the latest version.
2. Close/disable Anti Virus, Spyware and Firewall.
3. You have uninstall the PC Suite ( I suspected that the driver files provided in the CD may be buggy because I followed the instruction to the tee and well, it didnt work).
4. Download usb driver and update update service driver zip files from SE website.

What did I do :

1. Unzipped both the zip files to the same folder.
2. I plugged in my phone (on status) and the notebook deteced a new hardware. I think mine install automatically in the background. Some of you may be asked for the driver files, just point it to the unzipped folder.
3. Go to the SE website again and select SE Update Service link.
4. Follow the instructions. At one point, you'll be asked if you have completed the checklist ( yes, tick yes to PC suite although you have uninstall it ) and proceed.
5. At this point, the SEUS_setup1.19 files will be downloaded to your notebook. Install it.
6. If you're lucky, the SE website will proceed to the next. If not, go back to the SE website and do task 3 again.
7. Follow the instructions.
8. By now, the SE Update Service window will appear and you will get the option to update your phone ( it will say that the s/w will need to be downloaded to your system before it can be updated ).
9. Once the downloade completed, you will see a prompt screen : asking you to remove phone, off it for 20 sec, then plug in USB cable while holding the c button on the phone.
10. Funny thing happened to me, once I plugged in my phone as per task 9, I was prompted to provide a flash usb driver ( yay !). OK, just indicate the unzipped folder and it will install accordingly.
11. Once that is done, I waited for the progress bar to indicate that it is updating my phone, but nothing happened for about 5 minutes.
12. I re-do task 9.
13. Voila, the pogress bar moved ! Phone is off while the update is taking place.
14. Once you have finished the installation, unplug your phone from the USB cable, turn it on and check the s/w version. It will indicate the R2L series ( from R2J for me).

dont think you can do anything apart from sending your K750i back to optus to upgrade your firmware. I understand from some of the feedbacks here that only unlocked SE phone and selected telco ones can use the SE s/w upgrade service. Hmm, unlocking the phone via 3rd party help will work but do you wanna risk losing the warranty in Australia mate.

I liked the idea of flashing the w800 firmware onto my k750i since i got it but now i get this!

I am going to try this as soon as it is properly tested because an offline music player would be a great feature for my phone.

I dont like the design of the w800 so i chose the k750i.

Since i got the phone it restarted itself once and freezed while playing video. So at first I was so disappointed but once i saw the posts on the internet i knew the problem must have been from the phones firmware and currently it is being fixed at a sonyericsson service center but i hope they dont upgrade my phone to a later firmware so the picture quality stays the same. I have done my homework and found out that the r1j and r1l software messes up with video recording and picture exposure. The phone is less capable of adapting to certain environments.Also compression has been increased to lower the picture size.Many say the pic quality has been decreased but on the other hand some k750i owners say they get better pics after the upgrade.I am very confused as to wether i should upgrade or not!

I think that the decreased "pic quality" that you're saying, is more acceptable to have than to have your phone freeze and reset everytime, right? The reason on why so many k750 owners had upgraded is because of this.

Well..... umm, how important is the phone's picture/video capability to you then? Is it more or less important than the stability of your phone?

I think that if your phone is unstable enough (freezes/hangs, resets, menus not working, etc...) then you should really upgrade it asap. But if there's nothing wrong with it - or if you can accept its current performance (nicer pic quality) then dont upgrade.

another choice is to wait a coupla weeks for the firmware that comes after R1L.

Just a thought - is your phone unlocked? I think that this upgrade will not work if your phone is locked to a carrier.

Tried upgrading firmware and all goes OK until the turn on holding c button on the phone for the upgrade process. I get an 'error could not communicate with phone' message. I am then asked to remove battery and reinsert. This then takes me back to the first upgrade screen. Any ideas what is going wrong?

If your like me and you want your awesome K750i to run the slightly cooler W800i's firmware which lets you use 'plane mode' changes the media player and a few other small things, then this is how you do it.

You can use the DaVinci program to Debrand and flash your phone, but you WILL need to pay 10 Euro's and buy a Fighter cable (around 25 Euro's).

You can NOT upgrade to the W800i's firmware with the original K750i's cable. This is because the K750i's firmware is RED, whislt the W800i only has the BROWN available. :(

Soooo, unless you know your phone back to front and feel brave (or maybe stupid) enough to manually flash your phone, but the 10 Euro's and use the Davinci program. Easy, and really, not that exspensive. :cool:

You can always go the next step and completely convert your phone by the way of buying a new W800i cover from eBay. Then NOONE will no that it was once a K750i! However, i personally prefer the smoth black K750i style, to the Bright plastic orange W800i.

basically, i want to learn to do this myself so i can try the w800i firmware on a k750i but also be able to back to the k750i firmware if i want to, etc..

afaik, you cannot convert it back to a k750 after flashing it to a w800. That's what some of my phone "repair personnel" friends tell me.

why would you want to flash a 750 with w800 firmware? the phones have physical differences like the slider for the camera shutter is different and works differently...

erm .. thats just a mere cosmetic change. both the k750i and w800i feature active camera lens shutters. its just that in terms of asthetic appeal , the k750i has a more "camera-like" larger shutter cover. it covers nearly the entire back. the w800i has a smaller shutter cover which is vaguely similar to the one in the S700i. different design . same function.

I think you meant that ...once it's flashed, the k750 usb cable wont work, the usb port should still work. (you just have to use the w800 cable this time).

yeah, I think that only the davinci software can do that for now. (the firmware itself has a .dvt extension, so it'll work with davinci flash program).

Well ppl, I decided it was safer/easier getting a programmer to do it. I'm now running the very latest available .. 'red' W800i FW with 'brown' W800i FS and can report no compatibility problems! :cool: :cool: When checking my FW version it shows as R1L! :cool: :cool:

Some programmers can flash back for you if you're having difficulties - I can't see how you would as both K750i and W800i software is very stable (SE is renowned for this).

Benefits of flashing are ALWAYS a personal preference ..

@phoneboy - you have to pay for the K750-to-W800 flash. No-one does it for free, bud! Oh yeah, and other noobs have asked for someone to make them flash files so they can get a freebie!

BUT when i disconnect my phone i get a BLUE-SCREEN and my WINDOWS xp sp2 reboots, but when deleting file: w800cm.sys in the drivers map in SYSTEM32 i dont have that problem. BUT i need all the files otherwise i cant upgrade actually.

WHO CAN HELP ME!!?? i tryed this not only on my own laptop but also on another PC, Another W800i from my sister gives the same bleu screen. maybe the cable?? please help me!!:confused:

mmm... are you sure that you've downloaded and installed everything? (the PC needs to have the latest java installed too....) Try to upgrade your XP to, at least, SP1... so it'll have the latest vbruntime dll's.

I have no idea exactly how... but I did try to install a pc suite on a "fresh and unupdated" install of winXP, and it wont run. Kept on searching for some missing dll's (that's when it was missing some msvbrun files)... when I upgraded the XP to around half of the files of SP1, the suite worked after that.

anyway... it might be worth a shot, for that could be what's causing his PC to hang.

Yes, this is one of the many bugs in R1N. Upgrade to R1AA using SEUS II and this problem, along with the MS bug will be resolved.

I have just tried updating my K750i with the latest firmware (twice now) and it gets half way through the last progress bar and then says "Error in executing script".

Has anyone else had this issue, and if so, how was this resolved??? (if at all)

same thing with nokia, the languages, I mean... rather than include all, they usually go 3 or 4 only (plus the generic) on a phone.

but nokia does not exclude features from one region to another... like what SE did with that multi-char search. Good thing SE is now correcting this mistake.

that's a weird one. Maybe you're using your bluetooth more? or listening to music more? Was there any change in the way you use your phone?

also, the location matters too... signal strength affects a phone's endurance.

There is no changes the way I used my phone.....but I'm sure the battery life is slightly shorter. I've once fully charged it without listening to music, no bluetooth and only receiving 3 calls per day (each call last about 3 minutes max).

My K750 wont turn on again after doin that f*&%ing update service piece of ****. After the computer says release the "c" button, it says detecting phone or something, then it says America 2 (figure its installing that firmware) It says please wait doenloading phone software and asks me not to touch the phone which I didnt. After waiting for a while, I get a message saying update failed cuz it was unable to do some script something and after that I cant turn the fone back on. I removed the battery, inserted the sim card, plugged the charger in and nothing worked, I tryed to do the update again and I get a message saying I am already updated and there are no newer updates. Now am stuck with a K750i that I cant turn on. Can anyone tell me what to do???

umm... are the regional versions the same? Like euro to euro or asian to asian? A friend of mine experienced that before... but what he was doing was changing his asian firmware to euro. His phone hanged and died.

He had to have it reflashed again at the SE service shop for him to use it again.

to those peeps who update the firmware via your computer... why don't you just go to a SE service center and have your firmware upgraded there... then you won't encounter any problems :)

I updated many times b4 using the first update service. Its SEUS II that caused my phone to die. I honestly believ that!!!

umm... are the regional versions the same? Like euro to euro or asian to asian? A friend of mine experienced that before... but what he was doing was changing his asian firmware to euro. His phone hanged and died.

He had to have it reflashed again at the SE service shop for him to use it again.

i cant decide wether to debrand my vodafone k750i or to have it flashed into a w800. is the media player and the airplane mode the only difference because then i will have it flashed but if some of the fetures that i use alot like the bluetooth remots and the flash light are gone or if some of the menus stay orange even if i change the theme then i will have it debranded.

You loose the button, its the same as with the Vodafone firmware (on the VF firmware, it launches VF Live! doesn't it?).

Did you all notice the shorter battery life in the new firmware?? I feel the difference with my phone......my battery now just last for 2 days....need charging the 3rd day morning (same usage before firmware upgrade). Before that, I can use it for nearly 4 days.

This is what happened to my friend's k750. After being upgraded - she suddenly lost a few hours in her phone. After consulting with the SE service shop - she was told that she needed a new battery. She got frustrated and sold her k750 instead - it was only 3 months old, and it needs a new battery already?? She's now using a w800 that hasn't been upgraded yet. (and she has no plans of having it upgraded).

My K750 wont turn on again after doin that f*&%ing update service piece of ****. After the computer says release the "c" button, it says detecting phone or something, then it says America 2 (figure its installing that firmware) It says please wait doenloading phone software and asks me not to touch the phone which I didnt. After waiting for a while, I get a message saying update failed cuz it was unable to do some script something and after that I cant turn the fone back on. I removed the battery, inserted the sim card, plugged the charger in and nothing worked, I tryed to do the update again and I get a message saying I am already updated and there are no newer updates. Now am stuck with a K750i that I cant turn on. Can anyone tell me what to do???

for all those people who think that branded k650i wont work with SEUSII, it does, i updated mine to latest version( R1AA008) with no probs...and even more.... with Total Multi Server, it said that i couldnt convert to w800i with the latest fw, but i did it anyway, so now i have k750i with latest w800i fw...

You are installing the Flash developer versions, you just need to go to macromedia.com and download the Flash Player - it is diferent to the program you use to create Flash files.

I have downloaded the flash player at least three times as well... that is what I did initially before sourcing the developer software...

yeah, unfortunately it does cost some...

the only thing left I guess is for you to bring it to the nearest SE shop that you have there.... for sure, they can upgrade the firmware for you.

OK, so I'm trying to be a slacker and doing it at work. I had a workmate install it on there PC and they had no probs at all. It may be an Admin thing, but as I work in IT is shouldn't be but meh... all working on co-workers!

Though now drivers not working... small hiccup in the scheme of things!

I think it's only through putting the W800 firmware, which is technically illegal. But still recommended imo...
