Unfortunately, after all the hype and specculation from some people about smartphones there will only be four phones announced on Monday, and neither of them will be smartphones.

Expect the following:

It's similar to the K600i.

3gpeasy, I don't remember anyone talking about the 3G K phone that's going to be unveiled tomorrow months ago.

well i don't know what phone is going to be announced tomorrow, but it think it's safe to say there's been plenty of talk of the k600 and a possible "something similar" for a fair while now

I have only seen people discussing Zoe, Ellen, Sakura, Hermione etc. in forums. The V600i is actually quite nice to look at. I haven't seen what this other one looks like.. we'll see in a few hours.

if memory serves... I think Zoe and Ellen are the two SE phones with EDGE on them, right?

cheers!

Zoe (Z520) will be a quad band phone with no Edge. Ellen (S600) will be a three band phone with Edge.

Yup, so it's the S600 that has EDGE.... thanks.

I saw this just now:

The S600 looks like a mini O2 from afar :) SE should have included a 2.0 megapixel camera instead of 1.3.

Why is it that the American versions of SE are the only ones to get EDGE? Why is this: "Keeping in line with Sony Ericsson's official policy to avoid the inclusion of EDGE in its handsets"? Also, what's the point of the K608...it's almost exactly the same as the K600 and doesn't even add any extra design elements??

hmmm, Interesting so far!

EDGE isn't really that widely supported in Europe.

K608 is just for the 'Three' network (Hutchinson 3G). It's just a way of getting more money I guess.

Right, but still, it doesn't hurt to have it. Besides, EDGE is growing somewhat in Asia...

i guess the way they look at it is the fact they have wcdma so widespread that edge would be a waste of time

I wonder why the Z520a doesn't have EDGE...I mean, it's an "a" model

i think EDGE is a dead format , the way GPRS didnt have time to fully develop before being superseded. hmmz ... IMO technology is moving way ahead of standards / industry changes.

e.g most of the world is still on 2.5G GSM GPRS standard. GSM standards , with colour phones and megapixel cameras. most countries have , already deploying or are planning to deploy 3G now , and with IEEE (engineering standards board) classifiying wimax , intel and nokia announcing the launch of a wimax product range by december....

get my point ? the technology has progressed to a point where the industry cannot keep up. This is kinda of an alarming trend. imagine. getting a handset (brand new) , in 6 months time , (lets say ur a heavy business user) , your EDGE gets cuts off because the provider sees no point in continuining to provide that avenue of data transmission and moves on to something that supersedes it.

EDGE certainly isnt dead here in the US.

GPRS IS GONE???? but but i use it everyday!! oh no, i'm using a ghost technology!!! i hope it stays as long as the supposedly dead WAP did.

they will be here..... and they will stay i guess. but i hate the fact that alot of carriers cant even promise a full natiowide coverage, strong signals, and at the same time they came out with all those unstable new, high speed data transmissions, which generally cannot help them generate a promised return profit just because the carriers themselves were too stingy to let sellers and buyers do business in their portal. They charge wayyy too much for access fees, and they charge alot for those who conduct business using their portals. Why? would you go to a shopping mall to shop if the shopping mall's gonna charge you like 3 dollars per hour or so? they just dont understand this fact, shopping malls earn from rentals! not from the number or time a person visits! (ok, dun bash me with parking fees) ~~ :)
