Hi all,

The 3G operator will be launching 2 new phones in Australia tomorrow, the Nokia 6680 and the SOny ericsson Z800i. The Sony ericsson seems less impressive however the 6680 seems chunkier. Which one to go for?

Joe

cellphone vs. smartphone...you be the judge!

i personally would go for the 6680, more value for the money if your willing to use the smartphone features. Plus the 6680 has a better camera than the Z800.

6680 is a better one for specs wise.... but .... i really hated how it looked. N70 would be a viable choice thou..... and N70 is the supposed 6680 basher from Nokia. Since 6680 is the 6630 basher.... :D Z800 looked better, nothing else.

i love my 6680, but i dont like the glossy numerical buttons and the chrome buttons on the side. other than that, the phone is awseom.

I have a z800 for a few weeks now & loving it. I am bias to SE cos of the bad experiences I had with Nokias. The z800 is also feature packed. The best way to decide is to experience both handsets "live" yourself at a shop. Buy the phone that best suits your needs.

I agree with Marwan. Its smartphone Vs. "dumb" phone you decide what you're looking for. I for one will never buy a Pukia no matter how good it is. I have used the enemy's phones just to see but always go back to SE. I have a V800 now and as soon as the Z800 is on sale I'll be getting it.

Haha, just wondering whatever pukia ever did to you jalal...?

It seems sometimes SE are prone to have problems too. Just like the T610 i have. Always resets itself and the "joystick" not too sensitive and also very low memory space. But then it is a T610.

The older nokias were like bullet proof interms of the software. How about the newer ones. Havent been using a newer nokia phone for a long time now so don't really know how it fares towards other phone manufacturers.

Would you have use for a smartphone? Would you like to have 2 separate cameras instead of just one that rotates? Do you like a canbybar form factor or a clamshell form factor? Is the size and weight of the phone an important thing for you?

cheers!

6680 VGA camera is a waste of time of using it as a self pic... its quality is just too bad... advice able to use for video calling only.... whereas V800 has a great 1.3MP tat can be rotate to take self pics... Picture quality on both camera can said to be even.. both have its goods and bad... but 6680 takes a better night mode and flash pics.

How much is the Z800 in other countries?

It's about US$650 here.

Size is too big though.

i would opt for 6680............... if it looked like Z800. And i would opt for Z800 if and only it had all the great features of 6680. ??

I'd go for the Z800i. I like it's stylish design and multimedia functions very much. Many claim that its a heavy and "burger-sized" phone. But for me, its just fine. 2 mos. ago, I sold my 6680 and then I bought my Z800i. It's the best mobile phone I ever owned and now my favorite. :)

in all honesty .. the Z800 's camera isnt what you would say spectacular .
in fact , i think it was a big step back from the S700i.

multimedia wise e.g music / videos / connnectivity, i think they are about comparable.

its something pretty even. if i were you ild look at getting a V802SE or V800 .. used. same thing as the Z800 except that it is cheaper and has vodafone firmware.

haha I think in these comparos, the thread starter should put it in the General Phones discussion, because obviously, if you put it in a certain manufacturer's thread, you'll get bias, at least more than usual...

jklo,

Sorry for the reallyyyyyyyyyyy lateeeeeeee reply. I hate Pukia because they are really hyped up for nothing. Another reason is everyone carries them. I'd get really bored of them seeing the same phone in everyone's hand. I think the max I can use a phone for is 3-4 months.

Marwan,

Do you know if the W900 is on sale in Dubai.

I don't get bored of my phones. I just keep getting new ones every time something interests me. I never see the same phone as i never owned the same phone as everyone else. So easy to be exclusive in the USA.

FullMetalKid,

I get new phones as soon as they go on sale as well but, sometimes there is nothing that takes my fancy for a while and that's what makes me get bored. My phones of choice are #1 SE and #2 Motorola. IMO the rest are not worth the money. I've tried almost all the manufacturers that are available in the Middle East and Europe. I never tried Sendo and LG, I've tried the other big names but, only ever liked SE and Motorola. Someone that I value his opinion is using a Nokia N90 and is full of praise for it. I wouldn't buy one just because its not 3G.

I love that...hehe even with the globally popular 3650 or the cheap N-Gage, there's only a handful of others with the same phone;)

True not to get a phone just because its 3g. But that is my preference and how i use my phones especially when i leave the country.
