Guys......I think the new concept phones covered by the mobileburn team at E3 are simlpy AWESOME !!!!!!
Perhaps, they are the best thing to happen to humanity if they are the new designs expected to launch by nokia !!!!!!
Nokia sure has something to give us ........
post your ideas and reviews on the new concept phones and lets share the Future ....
So, I start with myself:
Recently at the Cebit 2005 in Germany, I saw Siemens showcasing their new prototypes one of which was very intersting for me and also perhaps for all of you.......It had a laser projection beam which would project all the contents of the screen on a table or on a flat surface and you could thus work/ play with the laser beams itself......It is very similar to the Infrared Keyboard technology.
They said it would have a battery life of 6-8 hours of talktime and 3-4 hours while working with the beams....
And they also said that they were planning to launch the phone which would also have multicolour beams to make it more user friendly and practical by end of 2006!
It was cool thts y I am sharing with you'll !!!! I am finding the pics and as soon as I get them I shall post it right here......
Cheers !

it makes sense to put the n-gage technology into all their smartphones, yeah not everyone will use it but it's another step towards one device for everything.
and it looks like that device will have "nokia" written on the front of it

one thing they should do though is have 2 memory card slots because i take spontaneous pictures, so if something awesome is happening while im playing an ngage title i dont want to have to switch cards.

true, though they might have everything on one card, as opposed to the game-only cards they sell now; ie the game might be a 50mb ap on a 1/2gb card, with the rest of the space free
or maybe a card slot and a mocrodrive?
btw, have you been on the forum all day long, Jose?

the game on one card still means i would be changing the card if i want a new game, then id be saving to a different mem card..
microdrive is good...but id still prefer 2 mmc slots.
im home to do revision...i said i wouldnt go on mb forums ...then i got bored and have been checking emails now and again.

with the microdrive, you would only need to use the game card once, to copy it to the drive. surely that's the idea of the thing in the first place, so you don't need to swap cards about all the time.
i'm sure you're getting a lot of revision done... lol... you've posted like 30-odd posts today already

looking at the device in the gallery, i think it's one device from the looks of things - i.e. the gamepad thing comes out one end, and the keypad out the other?

yeah, it is one device. my mistake

they'd have some sort of copy protection on it i'm sure, but i don't know how they're going to do it

I think this is true.. the Nokia N90 and N91 are probably the best handsets in their class - or are at least equivalent to the class leaders. It looks like Nokia decided to fight for their market share and not roll over and die.. so it's refreshing to see something from Nokia and just to be able to say "it's good" rather than "it's good.. for a Nokia".

Has anybody else noticed that there is seemingly no way to access the softkey functions? There are no buttons for "Options" and "Exit". They just pasted a S60 display in there, but it seems quite obvious that the device could never actually work with S60.

if you look at top (when held in gaming mode), where the L AND R buttons normally are, maybe thats them :S but it would be hard to use for things like calling/other normal usage.
Or ..or or or...maybe the silver button (next to d pad) doubles up so when you push it in different directions it acts as the softkey...lol..:D

I agree as to the S60 factor. It would seem that there is no way of accessing the softkey menu's from what buttons are shown on the concept phone...(although there is the S60 menu key on the keypad). However should nokia choose to use an S60 OS in this phone, it seems that there is room under the "options" & "exit" prompt where a pair of softkeys could fit if need be.
Perhaps nokia just put the S60 screen on there to promote a sense of familiararity, and infact they will go with a different OS version... maybe some sort of hybrid Smartphone/Gaming OS... Dreams are free!
Nice reception of the design all round, but remember its a concept, there is still alot of room for change.
I personally like the whole "tin can" look, like the container of those expensive designer perfumes. Its a good step forward for them, tho i have a feeling Sony have something just as good around the corner.
Its a good 21st century for Gamers and Mobile Phone users.

Maybe you hold Left or Right for a couple seconds..?
I don't know if this is good news that Nokia is moving Ngage games to all their new devices.. The QD is the same as the Original Ngage, the same as the 3650.. Bottom of the barrel as far as Symbian devices go.. :(
I don't see how the graphics in the screenshot they posted are even possible with the QD..

i think its nice to just have the option of being able to pay n-gage games.
they got some ok ok titles that i wouldnt mind playin if somehow i was so bored and the only thing i could do was use my phone.

You're missing the point.. Ngage games have 4096 colors, and they're made for phones as powerful as the 3650.
This is similiar to a PC maker saying we will make games for a Pentium 2 300Mhz with 32MB graphics cards until 2007... Exciting!
If I was nokia I'd make an Ngage 2 (or ditch the concept all together), base it off the N series phones and make it backwards compatible.. but Ngage games should evolve.

These are just concept phones so there's no point saying there aren't soft keys for proper usage of Series 60 OS. The devices will probably look nothing like that when they actually arrive. Who remembers Nokia's 3G concept phones and what they actually look like now?

Maybe you hold Left or Right for a couple seconds..?That's an interesting thought. I'd imagine that holding the joystick/d-pad for a second wouldn't be a bad way of dealing with softkeys in that kind of situation.
Good thought.

Nokia Smartphone Concept's design is magnificient! It's too cool. I mean, so impressive, so gorgeous. I won't be able to resist such a phone! Would it be a miracle if it's wrapped with N90 & N91's functions? :D I love the keypad though I doubt Nokia'll make it a reality.

Precisely...
doing a phone concept and actually making a phone are two completely different tubs of trout; we probably all have an idea of what we'd like our perfect phone to look like, and it's probably got a screen going all the way to the edge, or a clamshell with a micron-thick keypad (a la v3, only more so) or is the size of a 6230 even though we want it to be 3g and wifi and have a 32x optical zoom, etc etc, in other words we've left no space for the actual gubbins that makes the thing work, and it probably wouldn't be all that practical anyway.
i did a concept drawing of my own, years ago, which looked a lot like the neonode... and what a runaway success that turned out to be. i don't even like it myself, and i sort of invented it... sort of...
