I don't understand...why are you planning to buy the phone when you already have the 6630? Seems pointless to buy it except for the radio, and even then you can get the radio headset...

6230i = better cam (1.3mp), more detailed resolution, had a middle button on the D-pad, has radio and is a little bit faster.

yeah.. why would u wanna downgrade to a 6230 or 6230i when u have a 6630???
See i have 2 sim cards... One is a prepaid the other is billing.. for the prepaid card i use my 6630.. the prepaid card is for EDGE (net), text messaging, mms... this card has got 200 text messages free per day.. so the battery life of my 6630 is suitable for the above usage i.e without any calls..
I have a 2300 (hmm.. yeah the black and white one, which i need to sell as soon as possible) which i use for the billing card (which has got outgoing calls totally free..) now i need a phone with a good battery backup as my usage is around 5 to 6 hours of calls per day... (if i use my 6630 for this card then i will have to recharge my battery 2 to 3 times a day :D )
So, this is the reason i need another phone... i am going to have the best of 2 worlds.. one is the best smartphone (6630) and the other the best series 40 phone (6230 or 6230i)
I posted this question becoz the 6230i costs around Rs 16k and the 6230 will cost me around Rs 10k (i.e 220 usd) i might even get a second hand 6230 for Around Rs 5000 (110 usd)... are the upgrades so huge that i need to spend 250 usd more?? mainly becoz i dont need the 1.3 mp cam (my 6630 cam is much better than that of 6230i) so what do i do guys?

does all the customers have the same offer or its something special for u man?! :)
how much do u pay per month for the billing line?
seems that ur mobile networks services in india are GREAT!!!
anyway 6230i is wonderful , its cam is great & its faster than the 6230 beside its screen is clearer

Not faster than the 6230.
6230 has faster menus.
overall, if you have 6630, it's not worth it paying the extra cash for 6230i. just get a 6230...
How do you know that the cam of the 6630 is better than the 6230i? Or are you just assuming..

Tocool, even though I own a 6230i I would plump for the plain old 6230 if I was in your shoes. As you said you already have a decent camera on your 6630 and your wanting the other phone to just make calls. Although the improved screen colour depth is a major difference between the two, I would suggest that for you it wouldn't matter too much. In my opinion the 6630 could be considered more of a wow phone than it, because of the improvements you get with Symbian 60. Although I like the features and software improvement you get with 60, I don't like the size of the handsets hence why I got my 6230i.
So I reckon save your cash, get the 6230 and buy yourself a nice glass of tasty Old Monk and Coke at your local to celebrate ;-)!

I Want a N6230i for some reason. I havent decided yet :) IF YOU DO get it, post comparrison photo shots from both. REAL world comparrisons beat verbak opinions hands down. AND, quality from phone to phone might be a factor as well. Sometimes you just get a lemon.
Hope you get it!

I pay Rs 199 (less than 5 usd) per month for prepaid and for the billing card i pay Rs 399 (less than 9 usd) per month..
so you pay about £8 a month for 200 texts a day and 5 hours of calls a day?
that would cost me £150, and that's on my orange staff account! would cost a normal customer about £1200!
i'm moving to india!

1200 pounds?? that is around Rs 1 Lakh... i can use my card for 12 and a half years.. talk 24 hours a day, send 500 texts a day and my bill would still be less than 1200 pounds for 12 1/2 years... LOL... what are ur call and text charges mate??

Hmm, well, I have taken a few pictures of some stuff with my 6680, that I already had taken pictures of with my 6630, and I don't know why, but with the 6680, it's just a bit clearer with better colours...

Per the general consensus, I also agree that between the two the 6230 is the better buy. I own one and I love it. I did a lot of research on the phone before I purchased it and found myself thankful in the end for the purchase, instead of waiting for the 6230i to come out.
Basically, the 6230i's "mega" pixel camera is a joke who's quality IMO is worse than other comparable megapixel cameras (I'd even like to think my VGA camera is better :) ), the battery life has decreased compared to the 6230, and the menu speed has decreased due to several reasons i.e. 3d menus. If you're still considering this phone as an option, please read this very comprehensive review (http://www.mobile-review.com/review/nokia6230i-en.shtml) by Mobile-review.com.

As far as bad megapixel cameras go, I think you'll find the worst is Motorola's implementations which take worse photos than the VGA ones they use (i.e. V500, V3, etc.). I only got the E1000 for its megapixel camera and that was so bad I sold the thing on.
Also Karim, on Mobile-Review forums you said:
'You have a faulty 6230i, mine has a great camera' and then went on to say:
'No, mine works fine in 640x480 or 1280x1024.
The 6230i has a better camera than the 6630 but the 6680 has a better camera than both.'
So is it any good or not? I think the 6630 is definitely one of the better cameras I've seen around. I've seen some photos from the 6230i and thought, it's ok but the images are a bit soft. How about if someone compares the VGA mode on the 6230i to the VGA mode on the 6230?

for a normal contract customer on orange, it would be 10p per text, 10p per minute to orange and 35p per minute x-net
but it sounds like 35p would buy you a village in your neck of the woods...

Second Hand most probably if its in good condition...
The main reason i am gonna buy the 6230 (old one) is becoz second hand phones are availalble and they are real cheap... :) the price of a second hand 6230 now is the price of a new 6610... :)
Anywayz it would make much sense becoz the price of 6230i right now is around 310 usd and the 6230 costs near 50 to 70 bucks less... if i am buying a new phone i would buy a 6230i.. if its second hand then 6230.. :)

Toocool: Wow those Indian deals are unbelievable, how do the networks over there make any money if they can afford to give you free calls and free SMS all the time? So you pay a few $ and you make as many calls as you like for free or is there a time limit or certain number of minutes per day/month?
3gpeasy: That's expensive for petrol in the UK, i'm paying around $1.15 average for premium unleaded here and that's expensive for me!

I would think 1MP is good enough for 4x6 pictures, which is what most people would get anyways. You only really need high resolution cameras for blown up pictures, so honestly, unless you're gonna be making gallery pictures, the 6630 is more than adequate...

I would say this is easily as good as some mid-range digital cameras out there... This was taken in London at the start of the Gumball 3000 Rally - Porsche Carrera GT!
Unfortunately due to server limits I had to resize it but I think you get the picture (pun excused). I've also attached a cropped 1:1 image (not resized) too - both will suffer JPEG compression as originally it was 600K but probably not too noticeably.

I have 2 Questions
1) Toocool I am moving to India in a week, which service provider do you think is good, I shall be in Bombay, I like the package you have and will have to subscribe similarly to 2 Cards Prepaid and Billing can you advise?
2) I have a 6610i which I think I shall keep and am planning to buy a 6630 or 6230i, Camera is not a concern since I am not looking at taking many pictures from my Phone, I was about to buy a 6230i yesterday but somehow stopped to compare it with 6630, the price difference is not a concern . I compared basic features of both the phones and I see 6230i has some practical plus points but 6630 excels technically. frankly speaking I am confused. On one hand there is a bulky smartphone on the other hand a very ergonomic refined version of an old phone.
Can someone give me some Light and help me make up my mind. PLEASE.

The 6230i has a faster processor speed, animated menus, improved radio +media player, centre slection control button, 1.3mp with 3Xdigital zoom and of course the screen which has a higher resolution than the 6630...
An ace handset - until the K750i surfaced anyway...
carcomptoy
06-09-2005, 02:39 PM
I think that's unfair...just cause a newer handset was released, doesn't mean it's not a good phone in its own right. Honestly, not like all phones can do what the 6230i can, much less the 6230:cool:
666joe
06-10-2005, 09:22 AM
Sorry unfair ? the 6230i was released 2 months ahead of market position so technically speaking the K750i is in fact older than the 6230i and still sports a far better range of features.. Both phones are ace but the K750i takes the ticket in every area..
carcomptoy
06-10-2005, 09:48 AM
I mean this is unfair: "[6230i]An ace handset - until the K750i surfaced anyway..."
Just because a handset isn't top of the line anymore, doesn't mean it still isn't good...at least what you're implying in that phrase is that it sucks now because of the K750i:cool:

the only reason why im even thinking of purchasing a series 60 fone is its ability to play wav files, and use it as SMS or ring tone. other than that, i do not really need much of its features, and i still prefer a series 40 fone.
would anybody know why series 40 fone cant support wav files?
is there any way to play wav files in series 40 fones? or anyway to convert wav file to mp3 format?
also, ive set my 6230 to play mp3 songs as my ringtones, but sometimes, when somebody is calling me, its either the song doesnt play properly, (you hear only bits of the songs, the rest of the time, its silent) or, you dont hear anything at all... has anybody else encountered this in their 6230?
