I am trying to decide on a 650 or sidekick 2. I have heard a few things about the treo that disturbed me, namely the resets. Does anyone know anything more about that or have any opinions on which I should go with?

Well, either way, you can get both phones on T-Mobile, although not necessarily on Cingular. If you buy the Treo 650 from Cingular, the bluetooth will be crippled and there will be Cingular branding EVERYWHERE...might as well get it from Palm directly, completely unlocked and everything. You won't be able to use the Sidekick 2 on Cingular because Cingular doesn't have the servers specifically designed for optimum use of the Sidekick. I'm not sure about the actual phones, though, as I haven't had personal experience with them, but it depends on your usage. Do you need PDA functions or will the Sidekick satisfy your needs. Honestly, don't get a Palm if you don't need...it's way to big for its good if you're not gonna need its functions. Plus, the Sidekick has the cool factor:D

Yep CSKII on Tmo only if you want Data. I have had both, and I would stick with the CSKII. THe KB is the best, the orientation is nice. ALTHOUGH the application process is slow when it comes to their approval process. Thats the one thing palm and the treo have over the CSKII, is the wide application range.

Im sure the resets are just firmware based, though that can only be speculated. The sidekick has what most people want. And depenind on where you live, it may work better in some places than others. Im in Boston, and the receptoin is just fine.

Just remember, the SIM for the CSKII is a converted one. The adddress book contacts are non-standard, and if you decide against the sidekick later on, trasnfering the addressess out is a bitch of a process.

What do you mean it's a converted one? Do you mean physically??? Elaborate please:D

Converted as in, its got some proprietary code in there because its accessing a proxy for the internet and other mail appications to streamline the delivery (crunch the code html) so it can be faster. AND actually, there were some tests, and its pretty fast (when its working well!) even up against EDGE. Though, this was an unofficial statement.

If you were to take out the SIM from a sidekick, and put it in another phone.... you would not see the contacts... UNLESS you had some in there from another phone, like a regular Nokia or something. The Addressbook to me, in the CSKII is the absoluteyl BEST scheme out there. Its just so simplistic, but powerful.

When I had my Nokia, and went to the Sidekick in October 2002, I popped my SIM and imported the contacts, so THOSE particular ones are still readable on other phones. THOUGH the ones I made from scratch in the sidekick are not. THats ONE drawback, but the way I see it, I will never have another standard phone again. I will always have the sidekick as my main comm device. Anything else will be a back up.

SO... if you start from scratch with the sidekick, you are all set - though if you are using an existing SIM, you just have to import them in the address book - which is an easy process. :)

GO FOR THE SIDEKICK! I didnt have to buy a laptop because I have it! Now, thats some cool stuff right there ;-)

getting the treo on tmob yould be retarded. the greatest improvement of the 650 over the 600 was edge technology. and once again, tmob does not offer edge, only cingluar. and what do you meant crippled bt? i deal wit them daily and have never seen any 'crippling'...

How well do the PDA functions, such as scheduling and to do lists, work? Are they easy to use?

The PDA functions on the sidekick, are the easiest there are. Its a combo platform or ease, and function. But as I said - the application base is limited.

For the millionth time, T-Mobile will be getting EDGE this summer, so stop using that as an excuse! As for UMTS, then yes, but in any case, if I'm not mistaken the crippled Bluetooth has something to do with not being able to connect the Treo to a computer for internet access due to the exclusion of certain profiles. That's of course to prevent the user from obtaining free internet...
