My missus has just upgraded to a Nokia 6170 and as she's hooked on a game from her 7250 (called Triple Pop), I've been up virtually all night attempting to transfer a version of this game to her phone (which without Bluetooth and a PC requires an incredibly convoluted procedure of transferring from my Mac to my Sony Ericsson P910 via Bluetooth and then to the Nokia 6170 via infrared!!). I tried a ".sis" file first and have since tried various different games with files that have ".jar" and ".jad" appendages but so far without success (which all came in a games folder which I downloaded that was supposed to be for the 6170!).
The phone won't recognise the ".jar" (Java?) files and so will only allow me to save them in my gallery folders.
Any assistance would be most gratefully received as if I can't suss this out, I can see the missus ending up ignoring the new phone entirely! However please bear in mind that if you can be bothered to respond, it would help to write in the same terms as if you were talking to a three year old with this technological nincompoop

Do you have an IR port in your PC? If yes, you can use the PC Suite to transfer that game to your wife's phone. Just download the PC Suite, install it on your PC, then "connect" the 6170 to it through its IR port. Once connected, you can use the nokia application installer in the suite to transfer games, apps, and other files to the phone.
(Note that some games would run just on the jad file, while some other games - might require both the jad and jar files to install and run.)

Another way is to configure the 6170 for use with the GPRS/MMS services of the network she's using. Usually, most networks, offer or sell these games to their subscribers. Once it's configured - you just browse your networks website with it, then download the game you want.

Still another way... is to go to a branch office or kiosk of the network she's using, then ask the customer service people about how to get the games to her phone. Usually, as with most branch offices - they would either have a bluetooth or IR port ready, for them to use, to transfer those files to the phones of their subscribers.
Usually, there's a minimal fee, or maybe it's free.

Still another way.... is to buy a nokia DKU-2 data cable. Just download the PC Suite, install it, choose "data cable" as your preferred connection option, then connect her phone (through its pop-port connector at the bottom of the phone). Once connected, just transfer the games, tones, pictures and whatever files you want to and from her phone.
cheers!

Thanks a million for going to such much trouble responding. However I managed to find various copies of the game but when I transfer it via Infrared to the Nokia 6170 it doesn't appear to recognise the format whether the game has .sis .jar or .jad extensions and so it will allow me to save the transferred file but only in one of the Gallery folders and it is then listed with a question mark, showing it doesn't recognise it as a game
Forgive me for driving you barmy, but even if I can't get Triple Pop to work for her, at least if I could suss out the correct format required for this particular phone, I could then try and find a game which was at least similar
Again thanks a million for bothering to get back to me
Best regards
Bernard
