Just got my 6230i and ive got to say its the gretest nokia phone ive used ever and one of the best full stop. Theres so much to say about it so instead of writing a full review i was thinking about doing a q&a and post a few pictures.

6230i the best?? i dont think so... its not my kinda phone.. the screen is too small.. after using smartphones i just cant think of buying a series 40 phones...
my own opinion the screen is fantastic its very slightly bigger than the 6230's and the way it functions and works is fantastic it just doesnt seem like a nokia. and the cam is fantastic

yeah, on when i saw pics of the 6230i's screen i could tell straight away that the screen was slightly bigger. is the sound quality better than the 6230 (loudspeaker & headphones)?
yeah its better than any handset ive heard. ive had a 6630 and its far superior to it. Im really happy with this handset its just a great all rounder.

I used one the other day at work.
Not a bad phone, would seriously consider it as a second phone, and the screen is superb, but I would'nt say the loudspeaker quality is the best I've ever heard. At loud volumes it distorts and becomes weak sounding. My E398 is 100 times better in my opinion. Even my V500 sounds somewhat better.
The camera seems very very similar to the original 6230, but only on the screen. I'm sure it looks far better on a PC but on the screen it seems to behave pretty much like the 6230 camera, which had that annoying 'wavy' thing about it. When you move it left and right it can't keep up properly and looks like the image is bending left and right while its moving, or looks like its 'waving' before settleing out again when you take the pic.
Either way, nice phone, will sell bucket loads, is a good improvement over a good phone, and makes it worth as a generally good phone, but certainly not the highest phone out there. All they've done is bring a classic into 2005 with a whole bunch of up to date features, not brand new ground breaking ones. All they've done is brought it in line with the competitors to tide people over until they bring out a proper ultra high-end thats smaller than the 6680/6681.

I just got one.
Compared to my "old" 6630, I'd say the display is very sharp and brighter.
Great little feature-packed phone.
I would get it over any phone, in this day.

Are you going backwards or something?
You last few phones read as 6680, then D500, then 6630, then 6230i, each one inferior to the previous one, whats up with that?

Wow, that's like regression...isn't it the point to get BETTER and BETTER phones? In a month, I'll think you'll be using your 2110i again:p
Hmph, if you're not using your 6680, I'll DEFINITELY take it! I don't care if it's beatup or anything!
BTW, I'm not doubting the 6230i's merits at all...I'd love to have this phone, albeit a secondary one. I can't wait when there can be a comparo between the 6230i and the SE W800i...both music phones with high-resolution cameras and everything AWESOME!

6680 was just a business venture that I used for less than 1 day before I sold it.
Samsung's slide went to hell after just a few days.
6630 was the best smartphone I wanted to get.
6230i is the most powerful Series40
Currently using 6630 & 6230i

I don't understand why you switch between, when the 6630 trumps the 6230i in everything except radio and size (and I guess battery life)?

Plus the fact that the 6630 is nicer than the 6680, and the D500 is an excellent phone in my eyes and I dont see myself getting rid of it any time soon. Beats the 6230i into the ground.

Daedalus have you used 6230i to say that or just basing it on what others have said and you have read? Karim has used them all so I trust in what he says.

D500 is a piece of crap phone.
The slider broke in 5.5 days and samsung wouldn't replace the phone.
Samsung sucks in general, the D500 can't even ring/vibrate at the same time LOL
Beats the 6230i into the ground.
HAHAHAHAHA.

Karim :
If it was crap, how the hell would it get awarded 3GSM mobile phone of 2005? (Anyway, i do think that crowning it for year 2005's too early) And did 6230 received any awards of being innovative? or best bla bla and such? Each has their cons and pros. Yeap, 6230's a fine piece of phone given its spec. But hell, its FUGLY. And that teeeny weeeny screen is ... ahem.... :)
Ok, maybe it would be impossible to beat 6230i into the ground :D ; but i believe D500 does give users a more pleasurable usage experience given the attractive UI and design. Built quality. (Dun tell me the slide broke without reason, if it comes broken, you bet you get a replacement. But MR, you must've dropped it or used excessive force on it) Anyway, both are good phones. But given a chance to choose between the two, i will go for D500. Definitely.

I recommended the 6230i as one of the phones my friend should get when he goes to UNI. only specification is "good nokia" ...which is real specific huh?
Nice job by nokia.

The 6230i has all the features the D500 has, and more even.
D500 can't multitask even...
Awards mean nothing, the 6230i wasn't out...

One thing that would really put me off the D500 is it's lack of expandable memory.

Samsung has always been known never to put EVERYTHING in their phones, and it makes me mad because the concessions they make are usually big ones. Like the D500, it can't even play MP3s in the background, which almost totally defeats the purpose. Even my 3300 can do that! I don't doubt that it's a great phone, but it's missing some key things that would make it awesome. And just because the 6230 didn't win anything, doesn't mean it's not a good phone in its own right. Putting aside the screen size, COMMEDECARGONS:p, the 6230 I'm sure is a great phone...Series 40 is a great little UI and suits most everyone fine (although I like S60 myself better).

I think thats the first time ive heard you express interest in non-S60 phones.

LOL I know I've been a bit biased, but I'm open to other platforms and OSs, as a SECONDARY phone. I lived on S40 for a while when my 3650 gave out...it was absolute hell. I was slowed down immensely by it's inability to multitask and the small screen just didn't cut it for me...the 3300 was great and all, but I need the S60 if you know what I mean:D

6230i's screen isn't big, but for a non-smartphone it's resonable size + resolution is simply AMAZING.

the friend who was going to get a 6230i has two 6630s unused (from his dad who got them free for some reason) but he doesnt know which to get. He hates the design of the 6630 and prefers the minimal professional look of the 6230i.
id get this as a spare phone if it wasnt gonna be so expensive.
just imagine how good the 6230 was and now theyve made it into a completely diff handset the screen is lovely the menus look great but unlike previous the cam is great u can set vids as screensavers i personally think great speaker. its small compact and does everything personally i need a handset to dodnt get me wrong im goin to buy a 6680 but the 6230i really is a great fone. and trust me ive had a lot.

Hi, while were waiting on Karim's review I thought I'd post my thoughts.
Have had the phone about a week, and am impressed with it.
Pro's - Cracking camera and screen compared with my previous phone (see below), with the mp3's sounding not too bad out of the internal speaker. I think the internal speaker is much more useful than having a seperate speaker like the D500 (my mate lost it within a week). Also nice and light, and very similar look, feel and control to the previous models I've had before. Nice selection of Themes available on line so it doesn't look like too generic, and creates a good impression when slapped on the desk at a meeting. :-)
Con's - They've modified the Predictive dictionary a wee bit. Such that i'm finding it a bit awkward to type some stuff in, as its hard wired into my fingers at the moment... You also can't seem to change the size of the font, or the detail when viewing your msg inbox, so at most you see about 4 msgs there. I want to select it to the smallest size with no autopreview thank you very much nokia. Also when your on the phone and the volume of the ear piece is up, you can sometimes hear harmonics through the speaker.
Apart from that, the feel of the keys are spot on, and the improved middle selection key makes it much easier than the 6230 to use.
All I would need to give it a A+ is the ability to change the font size and autopreview. Hopefully to be included in a future firmware if we ask nicely.
Cheers,
Euan

Got to agree with CPW, I've owned a ton of handsets the last year or so and this is the best allrounder imo. Great screen, excellent RF and call clarity, acts as a a removable drive when you plug it into the pc so u can just drag n drop mp3s , photos etc to and from the phone, great mp3 player ,excellent bluetooth, decent camera , small, good keypad and the easiest to use UI ( imo ) nokia series 40 , revamped and made to look pretty. The Samsung D500 is good , its the handset I had before this one ( its about to be ebayed off if anyones interested! ) , but I like the 6230i much more. Just my two cents/pence tho I guess ! :)
