When the major, integrated networks launched 3G, they told us that when leaving 3G coverage our handsets would automatically lock on to 2G, having no discernible effect on voice calls, keeping data sessions going but at a slower rate, and dropping from video to voice.
Having phoned Orange 3G support yesterday, I was told:
"If you want the official answer then yes, it transfers straight over. In practise though, it usually drops entirely".
I asked if this was a problem with my handset, and told it had more to do with the network itself; in other words, it's not a 10 minute fix with the tech guys, not even a 10 day fix sending stuff off to get the software flashed. This is going to take, probably, months.
Having had a fish about, it looks like the other UK networks have more or less the same problem. Have you guys experienced that, for example on Voda? what about everyone outside the UK? Do you get this problem too?
