SL55/56 "open" to send/receive?

Does the SL55/56 have to be "open" in order to send or receive calls?

(I've download the manual but it's not clear about this.)

I *think* you can receive a call with it closed, but you'd best wait for an answer from a SL55 owner.

you can make/receive calls without opening the phone - cool or what. the sound quality is much better than i thought it would be when using it closed too :)

think this might be a good idea for clam shell phones too?
