question real quick. I just need to know if 3g is backward compatible will current gsm services here in the U.S. specifically t-mobile. I think that right now their service is 2.5G or something like that.

What do you mean by backward compatible? You mean can you use a 3G phone on T-Mobile USA's service?

Well ... I presume he's asking if you can use a 3G phone on a 2.5G network ...

It should ... right?

Cause my parents are using Z1010 (Sony Ericsson 3G flip phones) on Optus AU, which is a 2.5G service ....

As long as it supports the 1900MHz band, you're good. 3G phones like the Nokia 7600 won't work here as it doesn't have the American band, but like the Nokia 6630 and 6680 will work here...albeit without the 3G service
