View Full Version : My D500 Review !!!!

i decided to buy the d500 as i had heard a lot of the phone. and secondly i needed a upgrade of my e700. so i went ahead and bought the phone. from the pics i saw of the phone over the internet, i thought that the phone was not small as i had seen the pics comparing it to the e800, e810 and d410. but when i opened the box and the phone was revealed, i knew i was qrong. the phone is indeed very small and it sinks into the hands. my d500 is a black one.

WHATS IN THE BOX :
samsung d500
battery/back panel
stereo headset
soundmate
manual
charger
carrying strap

LOOKS : the phone looks sexy. the black colour makes it look even better. it is small so it fits into any pocket. when opened the phone in length is a little longer than the 6630. but it doesnt feel like it

BUILT : the phone seems very well built when it is closed. but when it is opened, i found out that it is not that strong. you can feel it when you are playing games on it.

KEYPAD : the construction of the keypad is great. buttons are easy to press and quick to react. the centra button is atlast an OK/i button.

BACKLIGHT : the backlight is white. when you look at the keypad without the backlight, the Call and End button will seem as if they too have white backlight, but they dont. they have a very strong GREEN and RED light respectively

SOFTWARE : reading some views of the owners of the d500, i found out that they had some hangups. but after using the phone for about 3 days now, i have had no hangups. the menu is great. its like the grid menu in nokia phones. very different from the one in the e700.

SCREEN : samsung 65k screen are as good as anything. but the 262k screen are greater. the screen can be compared to the one in the s700i.... i am not talking about resolution wise

CAMERA : the camera is nothing but great. the viewfinder on the screen is fullscreen ie.. it covers the entire screen. the pics come out great in any conditions. the LED helps in clicking pics during dim light conditions.
i will post some pics taken with the d500 but it will take some time as i have no way to connect it to my pc. i do not have a data cable or a bluetooth dongle.

MP3 PLAYER : the mp3 player is a standard one. the sound is loud through the speaker, louder through the headset and loudest through Soundmate. while playing mp3s you cannot do anything else on the phone. there is no minimize option.

SOUNDMATE : this is one of the best things of the phone. the soundmate makes the sound more better. it doesnt increase the sound much but it increases the bass and clarity of it.

GAMES : there are 3 games in the phone... forgotten warrior, freekick and arch angel. among the three my favorite one is freekick.

in short, i love this phone. it is small and feature packed too.
i have my exams coming up next week so i couldnt write more on this phone. please ask me any questions you have and i will be more than happy to answer them for you.

thanks everyone for your opinions

BATTERY : after my first charge my phone lasted for 3 days until i had to charge it again. those 3 days included hours of playing games, about 2 hours of calling and just surfing through the phone

RF : as jayesh said something about orange dropping calls, i have not had this problem so far. call clarity is great, network reception is great.

the one thing i dont like about this phone is that it doesnt play wav files. so each time i want a ringtone, i have to convert it to mp3 and then transfer it.

BLUETOOTH : it works fine. i have far connected the d500 to the s700, 6630, 7710 and sent/recieved files and it works fine. i have also connected it to bluetooth headsets like jabra bt200 and nokia hs-4w and that works fine too

thanks for the repost rohan... The orange prob is there i thought i had cooky handsets till i realized its happening all over south bombay. I even went and got myself a new sim to make sure it was not the trouble with that. The network this side is VERY congested
