UMA is a technology designs to allow seamless voice and data roaming between cellular and data (Wi-Fi or Bluetooth) networks.
It tunnel GSM or CDMA traffic over the Internet, which means you can use the phone via WiFi or Bluetooth routers, and then use the cellular network everywhere else.
It was recently approved as an official 3GPP industry standard called GAN (Generic Access Network).
