Basically, with ebay, dont rush into things. Read everything on a page to make sure you know exactly what you're bidding on/buying. Lots of sellers only accept payment via paypal, so get an account if you havent already. Also, check the feedback of the seller, this will give you an idea whether he/she should be trusted. I've been using ebay for about a year, and not had any problems.

well around $800 +there will be delivery charges but i do not expect them to much more, because im giving a 512mb mmc instead of the standard 128mb, its in really good condition, and ive got a screen protector for it also
hands free kit, charger, leather case, 2 styluses, box manual, everything really, its totally legit, and if it gets done through ebay, i can offer buyer protection etc, so you know that its safe

Well, the most basic advice I can tell you is to make sure they offer PayPal...that way, if it is a scam, you can still get your money back, as long as you paid the extra for satisfaction guaranteed, which is really only a fraction of the cost

Definitely make use of paypal... Its free and protects you from those out to profit on your behalf... Feedback is also an excellent sign of how they do business...
Feedback left on every auction they sell an item from so you will know if they have been honest or if their buyers are dissatisfied...
If everything looks good and you still arent sure email the bidder... They will commonly give out a phone number and discuss it in person on bigger items like that...

Dont ever allow people to buy with western union or money orders, these are very often scams, usually coming from africa. I sold a 6260 on ebay recently, and recieved several requests of buyers not going through ebay to pay with a money order via western union. When i said that I wanted only paypal, they got annoyed and said they would pay as much as i wanted for it, as long as they could pay by their method. Only use paypal, its the safest way.

Its funny you said that... one of my coworkers just sold a contest phone a month or so ago and it was on the 3rd listing of the phone because the first two times they buyer was in fact from africa and wanted to send a western union or Money Order... of course she is smart enough not to send without cash in hand but still there are a lot of people out there to take advantage of the unknowing on ebay....

thats one of the main rules for sellers, never actually send without getting the money first, i never accept anything apart from paypal, its jst easier anyway, but it is a problem for buyers as you yourself have to put trust into some one, so its a gamble
EVERY single time ive sold phones on ebay you can guarantee I will get at least 5 emails from "business owners" from Nigeria or Lithuania offering to pay for the phone by western union for double the price or something, thats why I dont use it much as I dont trust it, too many dodgy people about !

i see you regularly sell charity wristbands for a profit as well. Do you pass this money on to the charity or just pocket it?

for your information its not a charity, its a stand against racism, the cause gets the money they wanted, the profits as you put it, are to cover the exspense of getting the required items, what i sell is upto me really and im am not the only person who does this, i simple provide a supply for the demand that there is, seeing as it looks like you joined simply to state this, you should complain to nike, they are the ones who are making the most 'profit' out of this...

This is text-book ebay fraud through and through... Don't even bother replying to any more of that persons emails or any more like it.

nike take a donation for the bands which is passed on to various causes to campaign against racism. You give this donation and then make a profit from it . The person buying from you makes no donation. They then do not buy a band from a legitamate supplier when the stocks become available. It really is not an excuse to say that it's ok because other people do it. I have been browsing these forums for quite some time but have never been moved to contribute before. I am looking to buy a 7710 and, as advised, checked out the history of sellers before purchasing. Your history brought this unsavoury behaviour to light. Feel free to blame it on Nike because they are a big corporation if you like but it would seem like a p1ss poor excuse to me.

yeh i reported that email to ebay. my friend was telling me the same thing, its like one person just constantly changing his email and trying to scam people, well somebody has clicked on the buy-it-now option on my 7710, and hopefully they will pay via paypal, but they wish to collect is that normal? i don't know as im still kind of new to ebay?

Them collecting should be fine, as long as you specify the date of collection when you are 100% sure the money has ben transferred. Them collecting it is just a way of avoiding postal costs really.

Ebay can be good for mobile phones, but somtimes you have to ask if its not just as easy to get a new contract with a free phone - in the UK for example the deals are excellent and I have previuosly just got a new contract, taken out teh sim - never used it and still teh phone price for a nokia 6630 was cheaper than anything on ebay
flea34
02-27-2005, 04:00 PM
but then you leave yourself having to pay the contract for a year surely? THat would add a lot to the price if you're not using the sim.

yeh but in a way you do end up getting it cheaper, my brother got a 6630 on contract for £20 and all together with the years line rental came to £260, and this was beginning of january, it still ended up being cheaper then buying it else where, you simply pick a low tariff, meh this person still has not paid for the 7710 might have to relist it now...

If you're buying from eBay, especially on a high-ticket item like a Nokia 7710 it is absolutely vital that you check that the seller has a track record in selling phones and not just their overall feedback.
A fairly common fraud technique is to hack into an account with good feedback and then use it to sell nonexistant items.

yeh thats true but how about me? this is the first time ive started selling phones? i cant exactly have a good track record, i can provide pictures really, but its true i would be cautious when buying a high priced item, but maybe thats why he wants collection so he knows its real, meh he still hasnt paid if he has not by the end of today i shall have to relist,
