Hi

How can I get files onto my P910i quicker? Transferring mp3 files takes aaaaaaaagggggesss! (using the "My P910i" software that came with the phone and the USB cable)

This is XP and USB 2.0 - these should transfer in seconds, not 10 minutes!

Failing any better software, can anyone reccomend a good card reader/writer that works with Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo? I have tried two so far and they didn't work with this memory card

Cheers
MW

To be fair Memzee that article never mentions the P910i, nor does it give any indication that FMA speeds up file transfer. I appreciate BlueTooth is the quickest, but that again doesn't explain why the SE software takes so long to transfer files over a very fast USB connection

It says 'Sony Ericsson phone', and I don't know why the software supplied on the SE CD is so slow, it just is. Just try FMA - what have you got to lose?

It's much faster and more versatile.

OK, I realise this isn't an FMA help site, but I have downloaded, installed, restarted PC, connected my phone, started FMA and it doesn't see my phone :-(

I have opened up Tools | Options and set FMA to look at COM4, which is what my phone is attached to. Still nothing, all the details are "?".

Any ideas?

In fact, if we look at sf.net for this project, under tested devices, we see that the P910i is not supported by FMA.

So

1) my initial post was valid
2) the giude you sent me, although I am sure is extremely useful, overstates itself when it says "Sony Ericsson Phones". FMA clearly only works with a limited number of SE phones.

OK, I stand corrected and apologise.

As far as I knew, FMA works with all SE phones. I'll change my post.

I appreciate the amendment :-)
However, I am still left waiting over 40 mins to transfer a single album to my phone - typical!

The probably spend millions developing the phone, then pennies on software my granny could write...

40 mins for a whole album? That seems reasonable to me.. when I used to use a cable with my K700i it used to take that long for a single 4MB MP3.

Not if SE seriously expect this phone to be a replacement for an mp3 player. Transfer of music to an Ipod is virtually instantaneous compared to this.
I need a memory card reader/writer, but even then I am having problems finding one that works with Sony MS Pro Duo.

I mean what kind of company releases three types of memory card:

Memory Stick
Memory Stick Pro
Memory Stick Pro Duo

SD cards are just way superior. I love my P910i though, it's awesome. Just wish Sony had put a little thought into the bells and whistles.

They don't. That's the whole idea about the forthcoming 'Walkman' phones.. like most features on a mobile phone, it's for convenience, and not for replacing existing equipment/devices.
