First, I'm new.

So hello. My name is Angela.

Piacere.

Anyway. Is Cingular going t\have anything simmillar to the Sidekick? I guess there is the OGO, but that's kind of.. Eh. I don't like it.

I could always go to Tmobile and just buy the Sidekick, and use it with Cingular (I have another year and a half on my contract).. But would that interfere with Media Mall and other such features?

Thanks!

Hi Angela,
I haven't heard about Cingular offering anything Sidekick-like beyond the OGO.

Two issues with your plan. 1) T-Mobile locks their phones so they can't be used on another carrier. They will unlock it, but only after you've had service with them for a while. I imagine you could find an unlocked Sidekick on eBay though. 2) The Sidekick doesn't support the 850MHz GSM band, which Cingular makes use of, so you'd get sub-par service.

Well, you could check if your area makes good use of the 850 band...somehow. Would you be able to do that through the store or customer care? If you're really determined to, just get it off of eBay like gromitjc said...

Um, okay...anyways, if you want a Sidekick like phone for Cingular, then you should get the LG F1900...totally forgot about it. It has a sliding QWERTY keypad and is totally messaging-centric. However, if you plan to go out of the continent, you'll have to rent a world phone, as it only has the American bands...

Actually, I just realized this...Cingular doesn't have the hardware for the Sidekick, and so there'll be a lot of features you can't use. T-Mobile has everything set up, from the web-browing to the mail inbox, to your own personal account for the Sidekick, and so if you used it on Cingular, it'd be greatly impaired.

You're right - almost all of the Sidekick's functionality is dependent on Danger's servers (they run them for T-Mobile). It probably would only work as a phone with a Cingular SIM.
