Well, it's a bit late and it has no microphone... I still have my modded HDS-3 from 6230 days and I built mine so it does have a microphone - when I get the 6630 or whatever I get, I'll be using mine.
I really do wonder why phone manufacturer don't just put the 3.5mm jack on the phone itself, is it really that hard? I very much doubt it, it'd be a major selling point for some people, and hybrid phone/PDAs (O2 XDA, etc.) have them.

it's not difficult but they could earn more with an additional accesory that wwe would have to buy if we wanna use it

Nokia's next step now is to implement the 3.5mm ports on their phones.

Someone from another forum called the Nokia careline just a while ago to ask if this could work on older Nokia fones. Their reply ? No.
It seems to be compatible with the 6681, and maybe 6680 and 6101, since this is not featured on the enhancement list for 6680 and 6101.

I will show you how to mod your own one if you want. You need to be quite skilled at soldering and it took me about an hour to do it satisfactorily (i.e. so it's strong and won't snap), but now I can use my headset adaptor on any Pop-port phone, and have microphone access but get to use any headphones I want.

deviant, so u mod a stereo nokia headset such that it will take any normal 3.5mm jack earphones?

Yes, that's exactly what I did. You can either hardwire in some headphones (so they are permanently attached) or put a 3.5mm jack there which you can then plug and unplug them as you wish.

will this produce a stereo sound from the 7610 and others mono phones. if not so what really is its importance ?!

Because Nokia's own headphones don't really cut it when it comes to high-fidelity sound...

I agree, HDS-3 and HS-3 are not the best. DEViANT, why don't you make some step-by-step review so we can all enjoy our stereo Nokias? :)

I'll get that up later but it came from a different site and I improvised on some bits to it (the site was in Chinese). I probably should've taken photos as I was doing it with hindsight. Anyway, I'll worn you all now if you want to do it (and it is well worth it, because I've had lots of people come to me and ask I can make them for them) that you need a very precise soldering iron, steady hands and probably some shrink-wrapping too...
[Now that I think of it, the 3300 has a 3.5mm jack, shame it's only for audio in and not out...]

Actually, the 3300 only has a 2.5mm jack, but included in the sales package is a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adaptor cable (ADE-2)

a manufacturer like nokia will not go into simply supporting 3.5mm standard while they have this 'stranglehold' on the market, so we can't expect to see a change anytime soon.
however at least they have released their own, official adapter, which many people have been after, see below for modded headsets and home made versions

i have a black one similar to that in the first link and nokia are right to bring out their own adapter.
i expect it will be released 1st quarter and im assuming it should be compatible with most recent phones.....wait and see

Actually some manufacturers have already begun putting 3,5 mm ports on their phones/headsets. Anyone intrested can take a look at the sharp 902, it has an a/v connector on the side, wher you can connect your headset microphone. after the microphone thera's an 3,5 mm port. like the headset Deviant made.

It's just for recording...using the included cable, I can plug in an MP3 player or CD player and record the song while it's playing on the external player. Basically, you can record anything from any device that has a 3.5mm jack, like my TV. That's what it means audio in...the sound is coming INTO the phone, not the phone's sound is being sent to an external source.

then a normal pop-port is used for listening to music through the 3300.
and the 3.5 mm jack used only for recording ?

Yes, this is what I was getting at. I wonder how hard it would have been to put a select in the hardware to choose between audio in and out on that socket...
