View Full Version : Samsung D700
What can I say folks - this looks like THE handset to have if you want a clamshell. I'm very excited about it, but as of yet there are no plans to release it in Australia. Let's hope they change their minds.
(for those that dont know about it - read http://www.mobileburn.com/review.jsp?Id=291)

Does look pretty schmick on the features - although not my type of styling. Gotta love 65k colour screens tho... my new E365 is so much more enjoyable to use when the screen is so clear.

Yeah, most people I have spoken with don't like the looks of it.
But I don't care much for looks, I am concerned with what it can do, and how big/heavy the package is.
I have used a D700 before. Quite cool.

Dammit - I want your job!
Looks arent that big a factor, especially when you see what the rotating screen can do. A series 60 clamshell at 110 grams ia VERY appealing.

Yep this looks like the phone for me! Or maybe an A920, but I'll wait for both of them to be released.
So it is due to be released within the next month i guess?

I've never actually seen the rotating-screen phone... does it really make that much of a difference for usage (presumable photo taking)?

Well it ceratinly makes things a little more flexible. Taking photos is a bit easier and you can impress the girls with it too. ;) :)

I've been looking at details on this phone, and i have seen the quoted internal memory to be either 4Mb or 16, and that some sites say it has Bluetooth, and others not, does anyone know what the phone will have, and an ETA for the UK?

Your post is the first I have heard mention that it might not have Bluetooth.

I have a feeling it will only have 4mb of memory. They will prefer you use the MMC slot for apps and multimedia files.

Maybe it was just missed out on some sites, personally, as long as there is BT, the memory doesn't matter too much as it is expandable, this may be the handset for me!

I am fairly sure it'll have bluetooth...
Leaving BT out would be a mistake imo.
The D700 is soooo impressive! (i'm drooling)

Now that I have the Samsung V206 I am now looking at the D700 and wondering how quickly I can get my hands on this phone. It looks awseome!!! Is the D700 the new version of the Samsung SGH-P400 and secondly is the D700 coming to America?

I haven't heard anything either way concerning a delay. Samsung is pretty non-communicative.

I was reading a piece about IFA, and it said that all of Samsung's smartphones were delayed until at least early next year, as it was only a niche market, or something like that...

What's up with the lack of external display?
It seems like external displays are standard on any clamshell phone these days...even LG is doing it on their new swivel screen phone, so why won't Samsung?
Hope they add it before the phone gets put into mass production...
(I think there's hope, have you seen how much the sgh-i500 has changed between the old concept drawings and the latest pictures???)

Does the D700 have a handsfree speakerphone?
The 4 features I absolutely want in a phone:
atleast a 65k colour TFT screen
handsfree speakerphone
bluetooth
camera res. of 640x480
the only two filling the critera seem to be SX1 and 6600. Almost went for the z600 before realising that it doesn't have a speakerphone and the camera is quite crappy.
WOuld have loved to get the Sharp gx22, only for the colour screen(250k internal, 65k external), but it doesn't have bluetooth and I want bluetooth so I can buy one of those neat bluetooth handsfree headsets. It even had a loudspeaker :(
why couldn't sharp put in bluetooth?Ok,i know i am whining. Btw, a 250k display?and nokia and siemens are still touting a 65k display.

you can flip the top part of the phone around for an external display

I am aware of that, but you know, it's not quite the same or as convenient as a built-in external display....
Not to mention that leaving the phone with the screen turned around in your pocket would completely expose it to scratches and dust, which partially defeats the whole purpose of using a clamshell phone...
It just kind of bugs me that Samsung seems to be throwing in every possible feature on this phone but missed something as simple as an external display...it didn't have to be a color OLED or anything, just something functional like what Sony's Z600 has...that way it wouldn't chew up the battery too much but still would save you from needing to flip the phone open everytime you get a call to see who it is....
Well, I don't mean to rant. It's kind of silly to get too caught up in a discussion of some product that I probably won't even buy... :D
No doubt it will satisfy many people out there, and I guess that's enough.
