If I could afford the 7610, I would flaunt it, and I am a techie..btw, which 6XXX is a fashion phone? That line is mainly for business users...

I don't brag about my 7610. I just use it normally, and people (narutally) come up to me and say:

"Hey ... kewl phone!" lol

The 6xxx series pretty much strictly business - the 6230 bent that a little bit, but its hard, square shaping meant it was more business-oriented than most. I don't think it's a big deal when someone has a 7xxx phone, usually the only people who are going to care are 'techies' or those who haven't seen a phone before and it looks a little unusual.

well, im sure techies would be happy with the 7710 right? its a fairly good smartphone.

but i will admit 6 series is strictly business, theres nothing good looking about my 6630. its hardcore boring looking with functions to kill. which is makng me feel jealous of my sisters 3220s blinking lights.

I'd really like a 7610, solely on aesthetics (my 6620 is certainly just as good a phone), but I don't think that alone would make me feel any different about myself.

its a good multimedia fone... thats about it.. its very very avg and is not very good for power users. if u define a power user as a fellow who listens to mp3s and watches video and plays with the cam .... u got a blow to the noggin coming

a power user will try and see everything from outlook syncing to bluetooth compat to data features calendar and basic pda functions.

for that 7710 is ill -equipped ( i speak from experience my gf unfortunately bought one and dumped it 4 days later for a pda 2k ( jam's bigger bro )

thats sad that ur gf had to buy it and dump it within 4 days! Is it that bad a phone? Or is it just difficult to use like the n-gage!

i doubt she dont have the patience to sit and post. Yeah she is a rarity in terms of using mobiles . is willign to pay but will not suffer bad phones. 7710 for her kind of use was just not cutting it. she had an eye for 9300 but when she saw the comfort of ppc with outlook and contact/calendar management overall she happily went for it.

she also is in the states frequently so the quadband will help her.

i agree with jayesh, for pda powerusers, the 7710 just isn't up to date. my brother just got moto A1000, and when i look at the application library there's not anything special about it, except for maybe a few things which i can't remeber right now (i know that the a1000 and 7710 run on different OS:s). PDA-wise, I really doubt that there's anything that i can do with the 7710 that i couldn't with my T3. i won't count the camera in because that's just a gimmick thing in pdas, u don't see alot of pdas with cameras and they're not really of use, are they? i'm not a palm fanatic, because i'm getting tired of palm os:s (or the low-end devices with bad processors) limitations and might get a convergence device next.

a1000 is uiq... if am not mistaken shares its database with the uiq power series of p9x . Lot of easily available apps and lots of good software abound.

7710 is the last of its kind in s90 since nokia powering itself more on s60 features and developing it to include touch screens and qvga screens and beyond 6680 is just that 256 k and a new refresh of the os

nah man not really . ive got a jam and while it does not compare to the pda2k it can do most of that equally well.

I think the A1000 might be locked to '3' certified applications (if you get the 3 UK version) like the previous models (A925, A920) were. Just bear that in mind before you go hoping to install all the P9xx applications which can technically run but might not.

That is really nuts to lock it and remove the freedom. Yes i know most people get it at reduced rates but hell you do commit to a network for a yr or 2 yrs for that. Ah well there are better options available in the market

That isn't true... It was only the A920 which was locked like this. Even for that model they released an upgrade for the phones software to flash it to the same software as the A925 turning off the "signed only" installation and enabling bluetooth and infra red.

I have seen locked A925s, so they do exist. If you read the 3 User Guide for that phone, it also states that uncertified apps cannot be installed. I haven't seen an A1000 so couldn't really comment but that is just what I had noticed from past experience. 3 are very irritating when it comes to what you can and can't do with *your* phone.

compare the Symbian (UIQ) app library and the ones of palmos or ppc

you missed the point entirely. THis is not an argument promoting one os over the other. i merely stated uiq has a lot of decent apps available. Am speaking from experience ive used p900 in the past and could do virtually all i can with my ppc ( jam ) and s60 ( the entire bunch from 7650 onwards ) .

I'm not promoting an OS over another, just saying that i use alot of programs and games, and i like the amounts of option i have for my palm. during the year i have had my T3 i have for example gone through so many games i can't even name them all, at least twohundred. twice that for reguluar apps. right now i don't have most of the games or programs i had due to fact that i lost my sd card. for the real power user, the present "lack" of UIQ applications can be annoying, since u might have less options. UIQ might have the right application, but only one option. that's not something to do with UIQ being superior or inferior, but wih the fact that palmos have been around longer, and have alot of users and developers. uiq is getting there but still has some way to go. the devices themselves might also limits opportunity, but again not the problem with the os, but with manufacturers and users (wanting beefed up device with long battery-time and low cost). i would go for uiq right now IF it had more applications available, or if there was a device with 3g and a SD-card place that was not HUGE.
