about to get a free upgrade from Orange. Not fussed about multimedia features. But battery life, connectivity, ease of use and built quality are of much importance ot me....

What do you suggest, get the Nokia or the Sony Ericson. (also thought to get the T630, but Orange don't do that...).

Any comments welcome
Thanks

Again~~ this kinda thread. Again, typical answer from u Hush Hush. :p

*Anyone who wanna note that something is better than others in comparison, please point out WHAT and WHY. Don't just say so and leave, it'll confused people who's not sure. And please dun be brand biased.

6230

But battery life - 6230

connectivity - they are both as bad as each other, so it doesn't really matter.

ease of use - the 6230 is streets ahead in this department. more features and much less restrictions.

built quality - neither are all that good. the k700i has a quickshare sticker that often falls off after a short while (mine = just under 1 month) and the battery cover creaked. the 6230 has the advantage of having exchanable covers, so i would go for the 6230 on this one.

Thanks Sirius, I was thinking to get the 6230, as not only has it got long battery life, but there are an awful lot of Nokia chargers about, so you never that far from power. However, as I use an Apple Mac, I was then leaning towards the K700i, as it is fully supported by the iSynch software, making it a doddle to manage your contacts, sms etc I assume.

But there is no support for this for the 6230...mmmh

By the way - is there a '6230i' or just a '6230'?!

screen : K700i

nokia 6230 screen is dull and somewhat dark , poor colour reproduction

poly ringtones : k700

clearer more crisp soudning from k700i

camera : k700

camera is clearer and sharper (generally) than the nokia 6230, camera pics tend to be saturated and well balanced vs nokia 6230 which appears rather dark and unbalanced.

UI / sms : 6230

k700 tends to lag. 6230 UI is bland and dull looking ( IMO : taste depends on indiV)

memory storage space : 6230

MMC card slot , easily avaliable and cheap .

games : k700i

both feature games . k700i has 3D games ... look better and more fun... my vote goes to k700i but this may differ according to personal usage

connectivity : even

both feature BT and connectivity suites. but given tt SE has always been traditionally strong in connectivity , my vote here goes to SE , but this again , depends on the user preferences

as u can see... k700i wins in mosts aspects ... but still ... diff people have diff tastes

Orange won't do the E398 anyway (T-Mobile exclusive), so out of the two I'd say the K700i.

But, thats based on what I'd go for, the best way to solve this kind of thing is to actually go in store and look at both thouroughly first.

Nokia 6230 - or wait a month till the 6230i and K750/(whatever the new k700i with 2-megapixel camera is called) come out. These should be announced this coming week, and on the paper the K750 looks much better than the 6230i (gets the MS-Duo memory expansion and 2mpx camera).

Thanks everyone for your opinion. I am getting a K700i for now, but have 7 days on Orange to change it to another phone. So I think I will try the 6230 by sending the K700i back.
Does nayone know how often one can so this?! Could I keep sending the phones back, untill the 6230i comes out?

What will be different in the 6230i as opposed to the 6230?!

Thanks

yeh the 6230i will have a megapixel camera

i think the major upgrade will be a larger screen and a megapixel cam! As the 6230 had everything else, i think thats about it! Maybe a 262k screen??

commedecargons, It wasn't a typical response. My response was based on the fact that I have used all three phones and I would take E398 over the 6230 and K700i. We have had so many of these threads that is why I did not bother to explain why. But here is why:

E398 - way better display than 6230. 6230 has a tiny and crappy display. There is no other way to put it. Other than the display, 6230 is a very good phone. I also think that E398 has the best surround sound speakerphone of any phones in the marker right now. K700i does not have expandable memory.

It's still a matter of personal preference. When somebody asks a question about 6230 and k700i, I try to let me know that there is a better choice and it probably costs less. Now, it's upto the person to chose.

Thanks again everyone (incl HushHush). As mentioned I am only interested in either the K700i or the Nokia 6230(i). Since Parceline have now bungled the delivery of the K700i from Orange and its going back to Orange, I will wait a little till they get new stock of the 6230...

then go for the Nokia, perhaps with a bit of luck even get a 6230i. Anyone know when they being released, and if so, will Orange be likely to do them?!

Well now that Cannes is over and Nokia hasn't announced a 6230i, it looks like the announcement may come at CeBit or perhaps later in the year - so it doesnt look like its gonna hit the marketplace before fall.

If you're not in the mood for waiting all that long, I would suggest a 6230 now - you've got your radio, mp3, expandable memory (MMC), and bluetooth. The K700i has a more lush screen, but limited memory.

well, as I mostly need the thing to make and receive calls, the most important things for me are:

- battery life
- power source (plenty of Nokia chargers around)
- ease of use, been using Nokia's since three years and very happy with UI

so, there you go. Still think the Sony is nice though...

true~~ i especially love the second point u made. Ha~~ true true true.... Nokia chargers are everywhere...

Battery life - the 6230 should get you 4 to 5 days standby, I have tested listening to the mp3 player through my bluetooth headset and can generally manage 6 hours of playback easily (phone on from 9am to 11pm, then put to charge) running a 256MB MMC. The k700i I have not used personally, so I wouldn't want to make any statements on that - my previous p800 and p900 have both been battery hogs, but they are Symbian phones and this one should be better in this regard.

Power source - you hit the spot on that one yourself :)

Ease of use - Nokia will always be the king in the UI department, from their simplest phones to the smartphones and communicators. Samsung, SE and Motorola just cannot match Nokia in this regard. Most reviews, even here on MobileBurn, don't have to spend alot of words on Nokia's UI because everyone knows what to expect.

Pretty much the 6230 excels in these areas.

The k700i is quite good, being a user of it, battery life gets better after a while, i can get 3-5 days (depend on usage or with bluetooth on or off) out of it as opposed to 2 days to start with.

With power source for chargers, yes Nokia is pretty 'universal' in stores when it comes to accessories, though there are a few SE ones around too.

As with the UI, it looks and works great. Nokia users may find it a little slower (not too much), such as some menus and browsing through pictures, but other than that its quite easy and fun to look at...

awaiting delibery of the Nokia 6230 now. Hopefully Orange/Parceline will not bugger it up again... Orange told me that I need to register the new handset/simcard, but when I asked about it again and why I need a new SIM card, I had differing responses.

One Orange guy said, that in theory I can just use my exsisiting Sim in the new phone, but may not get some new WAP/MSM etc services. As I am not bothered about them, I am thinking to just use the old sim in the new phone (keeping same number anyhow).
If I ever loose it, I then already have a replacement sim... mmh

Any thoughts on that?! Other Orange people said, that I MUST register the new sim. Even though I am already on the new promotional price plan they offered me to stay with them (see this thread: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=302).

Not sure now anylonger, if its a policy issue or a technical thing...

Thanks everyone
>;-)

PS thought I do a quick research on the charger situation and I think I just proved my point:

151 Nokia charger pics on google
http://images.google.com/images?q=%22nokia%20charger%22&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&sa=N&tab=wi

19 SE charger pics on google
http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&safe=off&q=%22sony+ericsson+charger%22&spell=1

if thats not an indication as to the amount of chargers in circulation, I don't know what is... haha
