Connecting to the Internet from my HP 2215 to SE T616 through Bluetooth, then on to Cingular GPRS. I can not send emails from the PDA's Inbox! Invalid recipient. Receiving email is fine.

I called Cingular and they said this was normal. Normal?

If I dial out using this same configuration to an ISP (Earthlink) instead of using GPRS (i.e. voice connection instead of data), send is fine.

What's up with this GPRS?

Thanks.

Nothing is wrong with GPRS. It is indeed normal.

The problem is your mail server. Your ISP will not accept mail from people not on their network. This is done to avoid spammers from using their mail servers.

Talk to them to see if there is some sort of authentication option you can use that will allow you to send email from the GPRS network.

Otherwise, you will need to find a new SMTP server to use....

Then maybe it's Cingular? I am simply trying to send email from my PDA. I don't need to do it specifically with Earthlink's SMTP server. Cingular told me they do not have an SMTP server (yet I have a Cingular email account) -- customer support does not know what I'm talking about when I ask for an address for their SMTP.

I can send email from my T616, but not from my 2215.

Thanks.

cingular customer care or tech support dose not have that info. because their data group dose not give out that info.

:) Ok, the easiest ways to send email from a capable Cingular wireless device is:

1. Send a text message to an email address.............or

2. Go to a thrid party email SMTP such as HotPOP.com and sign up.
You will get an email address that authenticates and sends outgoing mail through the server with the same username and password used when checking your mail. This works great with most all email clients avaliable for the Palm OS etc..
