Hi everyone,

I am able to upgrade my phone by the time March comes, and have been scoping around for a replacement for my T630. I came across the D500 and was pretty impressed with its specs, but at the same time, I'm still an SE loyalist, and the S700i looks mighty fine. I'm kinda undecided on which phone to switch to (price isn't an issue), and would appreciate any kind input from u guys, for instance, on the pros of deciding on one over the other, thank you!

Btw, does the D500 have a memory card slot?

Well if you really wana stay with SE by march the V800 should be available there and you should be able to get that. Ive read about so many probs with the D500, that i wouldnt get it. The S700i, is a nice phone, but its very big. Alternatively you can take a look at the nokia 6630 as well.

Hi Ruler_70,

hmm... goin by SE's schedule, gdness knows if anything new (not counting the already announced models like the T290i and the Z500i) will be released the first half of this yr. I thought the V800 is a Vodafone exclusive; how could it possibly be released in S'pore (or anywhere else for that matter) so soon?

Unless the V800 does see the light of day in Mar, think I'll still stick to the trusty S700i, since the D500's so problematic; i've tried the Nokia 6630 before, it's a big no-no for me, horrendous shape and terrible keypad.

Hi shaheen,

I did a search before, but the posts were more to do with dealing with the 2 phones as seperate entities, so i was hoping that some of u (who have used both phones) might be able to provide some comparative opinions.

Well ive used the S700i and i dont like it. I think the keypad on the 6630 is way easier to use than the one on the S700i. Like you mentioned, the D500 seems to be very problematic, so maybe waiting for one with a new firmware might be best.

The V800 is vodafone exclusive for a limited time only. Soon itll be available unbranded.

ive owned the s700. and frankly speaking it was nice, it wouldve been nicer if there was no lag. but there was. 6630 obliterates the s700 no doubt. only thing it has over 6630 is the 262k screen which in a way is important when taking pictures

Valin

is the lag worse than that on the T630 (when it's nearly maxed out with stuff)?

OF COURSE NOT. T630 is the KING of laggers. (of course - T610 too and both were nothing compared to the god of lags~ Z200)

If ur choice is the only 2, i'd definitely say S700. But take a look at Sagem MY-X8; it's extremely good. Win's S700 in everything except Bluetooth profiles lesser and that it doesn't have a radio, which is quite important. Take the S700, forget the rubbish D500. And take a good look at the good; MY-X8.

Haha,

if T630 is supposed to be the king of laggers, as commedecargons has very humourously put it, and I can actually tolerate that, then I think I can safely say that S700i would definitely be my phone of choice then, barring the appearance of the unbranded V800 on Singaporean shores in March of course :D

Unfortunately, the Sagem MY-X8 isn't available where I come from, but thanks anyway!

Hmm... jayesh, not really interested in the Panasonic brand, have never really liked the phone designs, but thanks anyway. Besides, the X700 doesn't really come close to the specs of the phones discussed thus far.

Ya, but a very lousy package, it's spec is what 6600 had 1 year ago. ADVICE to Valin, u're from sgp right? just cross the bridge to malaysia to pick up one (Sagem MY-X8). ADVICE to Valin: When u're taking pics for caller ID using S700, remember to resize them to 160x160; cos if it's 640x480 or 1280x960, it lags when people were calling. Other than that, dun quite worry bout the screen, it's scratch proof; provided u PURPOSELY scratch it. If u need games and stuffs,i can help u out a bit :) but i think shaheen can do more helping u as he owned one b4, selling it for a Series 60 6630.

oh yes.. roughly how much is the my-x8 in RM or SGD?

commedecargons

ya... cos i really think it's good and because the brand is notorious in phone design and were totally out of the mainstream, doesn't mean they dun deserve a second try, and after playing with one, i do think that the MY-X8 is a really great phone. Should really put it into consideration.

Winners

Camera -> MY-X8
Screen -> MY-X8
Design -> S700 (My opinion)
Keypad and 5-way -> S700
Bluetooth -> S700
Speed -> MY-X8
UI Design -> MY-X8
UI Ease of use -> S700 (Slight win)
Memory Expansion -> MY-X8 (S700 limited to 128MB)
Organiser -> MY-X8 (S700 had a stupid organiser which couldn't set repeats)
Radio -> S700
Refinement -> MY-X8 (The sagem is as good as it gets, S700's alot of noticeable areas where a slight tweak might have fix it but it weren't)

7:5 here........ (My opinion)

no way camera of X8 beats s700. ive seen pics. its the worse out of all 1.3mp camera phones.

one thing i dont like about the X8s design is the way the screen is long and narrow. thats just annoying

commedecargons

hhhmm.... but the color reproduction is better, it's something like GX20s, which they catch colors perfectly, not like S700's slightly blue tint anytime anywhere......
Well, it also depends whether u mostly take pics and view them in ur phone or u load them into ur PC for viewing..... i do think most people leave them in their phones and if thats the case, the MY-X8 wins!!

shaheen

well that isnt actually fair, i mean on screen s700s pics beat 6630s cause s700s got 262k whereas 6630 has 65k screen, but when you view it on pc 6630 can beat it.

do you have any links ot Sagem my-x8 reviews? i would like to read up more on thme, i almost bought it actually, till i realised how weird th screen shape was.. too narrow :S

hmm time to do some research into this my-x8 myself. never ever bothered looking at anything made by sagem.. they never were the leader in any department of phone features.

yayay~ City Plaza.. i guess so....... how much i'm not sure over there, but phones in Malaysia generally had two kinds, 1 is what we call official warranty units, other's are AP units which are cheaper, but it depends, sometimes theres no AP units for some models, and sometimes AP units were just RM50 cheaper than official ones, whereas most of the time they're around RM100 cheaper.

In KL, it's selling about RM1899 +- but i guess u can get it around RM1850+- try calling up friends who went Johor to have a good look..... :D but if u wanna come straight away to KL, i might give u some directions thou as my friend's Smartphone shop does sell MY-X8...... he told me the costs is around RM18++ .... didn;'t let me know the exact figure thou~~~
