I don't know about Malaysia's development on 3G, but for sure in United Kingdom.....the respond is not that good thou'. People are still prefer to stick to 2.5G and see no better reason to upgrade to 3G. Please note that network companies such as Vodafone spend millions pound to acquire the network licence.

The 3G network in the uk is extensive and it is also the fastest growing. outselling ALL 2.5 providers on a like for like basis.
3G, is that the newest wireless networking technology?

Report shows that, low demand on 3G.....due to its release too early. I think 3G technology in Europe can't compared with the Japanese 3G. It's just the beginning......in EU.
I'm not sure anyone here have tested the Sharp 902....??

yes, 3G has been a bit slow to take off. the reasons for this (in the UK) are:
Hutchinson 3G, AKA 3. launched too early (2003) with truly awful phones and barely any coverage. Have gradually improved but still only offer "walled garden" internet and have priced themselves so low they've become the most popular 3G service, and what many consumers still think of when you say "3G" (ie, cheap and nasty)
the other networks have just launched or are launching now, with limited coverage (50-70% population). For example, at home i can only get 3G on orange.
then it comes to phones. most people in the market for a leading edge phone already have top phones, and want fully functional bluetooth and decent battery times, which you can't get at the moment unless you're on vodaphone (v800)
so everybody's waiting. i'm waiting for the 6680. or maybe the k600. but waiting, waiting....
it won't be long though, manufacturers will have to concentrate more on 3G when the above handsets sell hundreds of thousands and prove that it's an expanding market. until then they will try to pitch "top of the range" 2.5G phones at the style market with bigger margins, which is obviously to their advantage right now.
prediction: choice, value and quality in UK 3G phones by end 2005. then, with the 12 month upgrade cycle, probably 12-15 million 3G phones in use in the UK by end 2006.
the future's bright...

Thanks for your reply!! I really appreciate that, cause I'm doing my dissertation on the consumer perception towards communication technology. And that's the 3G thingy!. I think 2.5G technology phones had gone to the peak already....max peak! :D Manufacturers still producing it......and having profit from it. Few of my respondents don't even know 3G exist,,,,,,,and they don't even know what is 3G!!. And another few respondents adopt the innovation due to the attraction of the handset Sharp902 not the technology that offers.

really, or are you just taking the piss out of a long post?
anyway, how's 3g in malaysia? has it just launched? how many networks operate 3g? is it being advertised a lot?
i'm not doing a dissertation, just a bit obsessive about global communication. might write a book though

I'm currently in Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK and doing my final year undergraduate. It's great to hear that you gonna write a book.....found some journal on 4G stuff......seems cool! You might want to have a look at it.
The development of 3G in Malaysia is slow.......heard some rumours that it gonna be launched end of the year of next year.....not so sure about it. If it were to launch, the hefty price tag of handset will put the consumer off. In Malaysia, they don't have the policy price plan of 'free phones' if you sign up for certain period of time.
Anyway, thanks for sharing

what, no contracts? or just no handset discounts with contracts?
it all seems anathema to the british mobile business model, where the signup incentives are the most thought-out parts of the deal and most phone-heads have more "free" accessories kicking about than they have bin space for.
as a side note; i should be able to get hold of some of the phones from the first wave of major uk network 3g fairly cheap, fairly soon. could any of the far-eastern lot tell me what the going rate would be for, say, a Sanyo S750 or an LG u8150? happy to ship a few if it's gonna save you some money

3g is going to need a lot of killer apps for it to really fly off. Those mobile providers need to check out the industry in Japan and South Korea.
