The new Treo 600 Communicator phone is probably what many Palm followers have been waiting for. A next generation Palm based phone running Palm OS 5. There are currently two different version of the Treo 600; a Quad-band GSM model that supports 850/900/1800/1900 Mhz bands, and a CDMA version. At this moment, Cingular in the USA, Orange across most of EU, and the newly announced TreoStore are the only outlets or carriers for the GSM model. Marcelo's Treo 600 review has been posted. He's a noob, so take it easy on him....

Interesting review that brings up some of the differences between the US and EURO Treo 600's.
In regards to OS 5 software, OS 5 can in theory support 160x160, 240x320, 320x320, 320x480, etc. A good OS 5 program should include bitmaps for a range of resolutions.
Having been a Treo600 user for a month I have had no problems with productivity software. Games can be a problem, but people like Astraware are already updating their games to offer OS 5 enhanced 160x160 versions.
This will not be the last 160x160 PalmOS based phone we will see either.

As mentioned one of the things left out from this current reiteration of the Treo is the flip screen. But now does this not leave the 600's screen susceptible to scratches and fingerprints if you carry it in your pocket?
Same consideration with the camera's lens, do dust (and lint.. ) collect on it?

I can confirm that the problems to get the infrared connection working that was mentioned in the review article are very much real.
As a mobile user, not wanting to travel with a 'cable bag' I tried hard to get the infrared to work with my PC. After nearly taking MS XP apart to get there, I could not get it working. I got it to sync a couple of times, but it is not reliable. The treo messages gives no hint of what is wrong.
Anybody out there managed to solve the puzzle and knows the correct XP settings to get it running?

Had the Treo 600 for a month. So did others in the team. To evaluate the use for possible wider use in the organization.
All experienced that the GSM phone program crash often. Sometimes several times per day. Even during conversations. It simply locks up. Reset of the phone is required to get on.
Maybe the positive review was made without European GSM mode, but GSM users have a real bad experience.
