i have an sprint account, with the mm 7400 phone.the phone is working terrible for me and i can`t make calls only receive them.i`m thinking of going to cingular or t-mobile, so i can have an GSM phone. i wanted to get the nokia 7610. now heres where i get confused. i live in the philadelphia area, and the only way to get the nokia is to purchase online. there
are no stores around that carries it. if i get, say a cingular account , a gsm based phone, how can i get my new account to work with the nokia 7610? i see this thing called "unlocked" describing some phones. do i have to get an unlocked phone, and do i have to "unlock" the cingular phones sim card to get it to work. if i`m way off could someone help me before i spend over $500 bucks and have a disater on my hands. thanx keith.

Well firstly, i suggest you get T-Mobile. When you go to get your contract, they may not just sell you the sim card on its own, so choose the cheapest phone they have. Once you have your new sim card, all you have to do is stick it in your 7610, and you are up and running. Of course, they will need to be configuring done if you want to send MMS and use any GPRS service. I also heard of Cingular releasing the 7610 (but i advise you not to choose Cingular). Hope that explains it, if you have anymore questions, just ask.

go cingular. better and larger voice/data network better support, better everything. you can order the 7610 through cingular sales via telephone (8003310500, sales) It is a special order item so online or in store sales will not support it. it is supported by cingular so your mms (picture messaging), gprs (internet connection) will come preset by cingular so you won't have to mess with any off it. if you go t moibile you will have to buy it from expansys or something and it will come unlocked. since it comes unlocked you will need to get the mms, gprs, etc settings from t mobile which can easily be obtained from their support section of their website

Again, go with T-Mobile. If you get Cingular, you'll have to make sure that your Nokia 7610 is 850 band, not 900, meaning you'll have the American triband. That means, you'll have a sort of incomplete world phone, since two of the three bands are just for the Americas. If you do happen to travel, then you'll only have the 1800 band, and thus you'll miss out on some countries that use the 900 band. Besides, T-Mobile's cheaper!

Also, in the future, it'll save you some trouble when you're looking for a new phone...you won't have to worry about an extra band!
