I love the way this phone looks. It is pricey and you would think for that price it would offer more but unfortunately it doesn't. I am considering purchasing it and have read the various reviews on it but would like an actual user opinion on it. Are there any P408 users out there that would like to share their experiences?
The only thing that bothers me about this fone is that there is no exterior display so I would have to open the phone all the time to see who is calling but I think I could get used to that. There is no mms with my provider right now so for me having mms nd you would think for that price it would offer more but unfortunately it doesn't. You can turn the LCD so it faces the exterior. This way you can see what is happening, but the LCD will be prone to scratching and breakage.

Thanks Sid :) I guess that wouldn't be too bad aslong as I had somesort of case for it. Would the cases for the V200/205 fit or do you need something different for the P408? I read that the 408 is a little smaller in size than the V200/205 phones.

My biggest fear is that the rotating screen iself might break off easily

It's possible, but I've found Samsung phones to have very good quality. More worrying would be if the rotating mechanism starts getting loose. Either way, I generally only keep a phone for 6 months, so it shouldn't be much of a problem!

Thank you for the information. When you turn on the phone for the very first time is it in chinese or english though? Reason I ask is because I don't understand chinese. If it's not in english at first power up could you tell me how I would find the language option to turn it to english please? If you have more pictures of the phone please post them I would love to see. I checked your webpage but the gallery was empty :( I am really looking forward to buying the p408.

I think the menu is preseted to Chinese, since I bought the phone in HK (and there is where the phone orginally available).
Anyways you can press on menu 55 and scroll up 2 to set to English....
if you are buying the phone at somewhere else, you can ask the seller to set to English....
for my P408 gallery, you can click on the hyperlink that shows "Please click here for Samsung P408"

I'm not 100% certain, but I think entering "*#0000#" and then send will set it to English.

just tried......... doesn't work.......
I think for Ericsson phones, it can set the phone language to "auto" by pressing <8888> or English by pressing <0000>...
or the other way arround...... don't remember exactly...

It works on a lot of phones, actually. I just couldn't remember if that was how I switched the P408 or not.

I really don't understand why Samsung has put MMS in the P400 and excluded it on the P408, I mean, with no e-mail client, how are you supposed to send your taken photos?
First the Siemens S57 with no Bluetooth and now the P408 with no MMS. Do they think Asians won't notice?

I had always assumed that the lack of Bluetooth in the S57 was due to regulatory concerns. The 2.4Ghz frequency band is not 100% universally available, so I theorized that some asian markets didn't allow its use and that Siemens adjusted accordingly.
Anybody know anything about that?

Is the new D700 the newer version of the P400?

Samsung always introduces lots of phones, but doesn't tell when they will available.....
actually, don't put too much hope on their GSM phones, because some of the features may not available on the GSM version.... since Samsung mainly build CDMA phones in Korea..
Check out SGH-V100, they said it has a "VOD" (Video on demand), but finally didn't come out, dut to GSM technology can't do....
My opinion is, if want to play with hi-end phones with higher brandwidth, thne wait for WCDMA, GSM has reached its vertex.... althought Cingluar is building its EDGE.. but when compared to 3G, it just a joke....
One last thing I want to add is the GSM still not very mature in N.America. In Asia (ie: HK), people can use their phones to buy a can of pop, purchase bus/cinema ticket, check their kid's school report through wap.... even thought they can upgrade phone's firmware or d/l mp3s in subway station....
This is not about phones, rather than the technology we have... No matter how expensive/ hi-end your phone is, still we need a good service to support it, otherwise it just a piece of metal....

Trust me, Samsung made good CDMA phones but not GSM!
Althought, I had own servals of its GSM phones....

I don't see why it should be so, as the SE T610 can be sold in Asia unaltered. Still, if the V200 has MMS, then the P408 will be sort of a step backward without Java as well.
Then again, Singapore got both the V200 and V200C with Chinese support but no MMS, so maybe we'll get both the P400 and P408. :)

That's very hard to say, we'll just have to wait and see when it officially launches in Singapore then. ;)
