Hi folks

I just got my V800, and now am trying to figure out how to upload some sounds onto my phone via the USB connection. Ive tried putting wav files onto the phones internal memory, and while i can see and play them in the "My Items" part of the menu, but they dont show up when i go to change the ringtone.

Does the V800 not support wav files for the ring/alarm? Do i need to pay through the nose for Vodafone's own download service?

TIA

hhhmmm all i know is u have to put DRM on ur MP3 files to set it as ringtones... trying putting DRM on ur wav file.. it might juz do the trick... Dont worry the DRM wont destroy the quality or sound of ur file... its juz a format that is required for ringtones...

Thanks shaznizzle. Yeah, hunting around i found out that you need to DRM your MP3s to use them as ringtones (typical of sony). Awkward, but at least the tool is available for free on the SE developers site. WAV files wont work, you need to convert them to MP3 to use as a ringtone, which is odd as the phone will happily play WAVs.

The Nokia site also has a tool to convert AVIs to 3GP files so you can watch your movies on your phone. Very cool indeed, now i need to go score a 1GB memorystick duo, and start converting all those simpsons episodes i filched off kazzaa.

mystickid: it cost me £150 plus £30 a month for 12 months contract from vodafone, but i see other other online places selling the same package for £50 less.

I cant even get the mp3s to load in do you use the sound editor then convert or just try to download to phone as it seems to go on forever...?

Hi Gordie.

You need the DRM packager available at the SE develepor's site. I just run my MP3s thru this, which crates a .dm file which i just transfer to my phone with the USB cable. These can then be used as ringtones etc

If you just want to listen to the MP3, you just transfer it directly to the phone.

Thanx for the response this things got my head done it lol....I just do it through the cable without going in to the sound editor thing....? do i just find the mp3 then right click ..send to phone...? sorry Im such a noob thought I had to download to the phone through that sound editor .

You dont need to use the sound editor. Just go to "My Computer" and open the Removable drive icon that should be there. Drag and drop the song you want to transfer into the MP3 folder (should be right there after you click on removable drive).

I am sure it will come out in US, but prob in 6 months. Tmobile will prob carry it as T610 is their last SE phone

wouldnt that mean they were less likely to carry the v800? seeing as they hadnt carried a SE phone since the t610....

I would not assume that. But then again, T-mobile announced that they will not have 3G until prob 2007, and this phone is made for that. You can still get this phone from ebay.co.uk for around $450, which is cheaper than s700i that I just got or v3. V3 looks good, but it is too basic.

What do you mean typical of Sony? Its not Sony's fault at all. Its entirely Vodafone, and all Vodafone live! phones need to have mp3's encoded with a drm to be used for ringtones. I dont need a drm to use mp3 ringtones on my non-Vodafone S700.

err......... u're trying to play a file on the memory card, or the internal memory? And how do u send the file to the memory card if it's in the memory card?
don jus right-click and click send to memory card, u must put in the correct folder. If theres's no folder in the mem card, try inserting it into the phone first and try to access the memory card from Picture/ Games/ Video/ Songs to format the mem card.
I'm jus assuming some common problems and i assume V800 is da same as S700.
