i had sent an email to nokia india regarding the release date of the nokia 9500 and this is what he had to say

Dear Mr. Rohan,

Thank you for your email to Nokia Care.

With reference to your enquiry on the Nokia 9500 mobile phone, kindly note that this mobile phone would be launched on November 5th 2004 in India

Warm Regards,

Arjun.V
Nokia Care India

so its gonna release tomorrow. :)

isnt it strange that nokia is officially launching many phones before they are avaialble in the grey market.

Any idea which dealer is selling this? Have tried Nokia dealers in Bombay for the last 2 days and they have no clue of when they would be getting it for selling from Nokia!

the andheri dealer will have the phone on monday. only limited stock. he is only selling it to those who have given him some advance. so maybe thats why he is not telling you anything

Yogesh
11-07-2004, 03:27 AM
Thanks Rohan, maybe this is why!? Would you know if all dealers would get it tomorrow, or is andheri guy the only one??

11-07-2004, 10:42 PM
i found a dealer at borivli who is doing the same thing. he is taking pre-orders. but if you are really interested in the phone, you should pre-order as it is only some rs.1000 advance. i dont know when all the shops will have it. nokia was supposed to launch it before diwali. but it also could be the limited stock

Do let me know if you know of dealers selling the 9500. Am located in South Bombay.

a dealer here in Lahore selling 6630 for Rs55k and 9500 for Rs53k at first come first serve basis.he said the price of the 9500 is official which will decrease after 15-20 days ,while 6630 r the leaked set from the worldwide nokia distribution center , so price is set according to the cost they have paid for it .
The same 9500 (beta) was available for Rs75k two month ago at the same dealer.

hey yogesh have you seen p910 also ? which is better according to you nokia 9500 or SE p910 ?

I used a P900 before. It all depends on how you use the phone. I prefer a keyboard than touch screen. I saw the thumb board on the P910, and decided it was not for me.

P900 (P910) is a good phone+PDA combo and is smaller than the 9500 to carry around. But the 9500 is handier for texting, browsing, excel sheets. 9500 supports EDGE (Hutch has it, Airtel will soon launch). WiFi is a bonus.

You need to try out both and take a call depending on how you plan to use the device. Both P910 and N9500 cost about the same.

@jazzy, @alipenny I don't have to lie or prove anything to anyone! Anyone, am at work right now and do not have the box with me. Will post pictures maybe later tonight. You could call Nokia Priority dealer in Mahim at 24443995 or SR Tele at 26463748. Or you could confirm with Nokia Care at 30303838 (call center number). Meanwhile, am providing a small review here -

The first time I held it, it felt really small compared to the 9210 that I used to own and also lighter. Removing the battery cover was not as tough as some comments posted by other owners in other forums. In fact I struggled more with the 6230 cover! My package came with a 128MB MMC and had Mobipocket Reader preinstalled (guess it is a trial version).

Switching the 9500 ON, went through the setup process similar to the 9210. A question was also raised on the latch of the PDA part. Mine feels quite solid and does not open easily. But its only 2 days old, so gotta wait for that one.

The 9500 also had a communications setup installer. This is an amazing piece of software that collects all the setup information from the network provider, and my GPRS, mail, etc settings were configured in a trice. They should make this mandatory on all phones!

Within 5 minutes of opening the 9500, I was up and about downloading my IMAP mails. To transfer my Contacts and Calendar entries, I paired the 6230 with the 9500 - again a breeze, and used the Data Transfer application of the 9500. All the Contacts and Calendar entries got moved across.

Internet browsing was excellent. A lot has been said on this, and so will not elaborate.

So far so good....

A few troubles though -

I could not get PC Suite to work with Infrared. Bluetooth and Cable connections worked well though. There is a PC Suite profile in the 9500, and it does not have a connection for IR. Still struggling-any help?

Similarly, I have not figured out how to power off the PDA side besides removing the battery? The Power Off only shuts down the phone side. Could not find anything in the manual. Any help?

I like my contacts displayed as FN,LN. However, the phone part still shows the name in LN,FN format. Don't know how to change this.

The Search in Contacts has been enhanced to include lot many more fields. However, if these fields are selected, the Search takes appreciably longer. Turn it off, and the Search is quite fast.

Nokia must do something about the phone side software. Its a letdown. The interface is slow - comparable with the 6610. The shortcuts do not include Connections. In order to turn Bluetooth on, one must open the cover and turn it on. This is a pain when you are getting into a car and want to switch on your bluetooth headset. No T9 in the SMS part. This must be the most requested piece since 9210 on the communicator series! Listen Nokia!! Even basic things like a Calculator is not available. Its so much more convenient using the calculator with the numeric keypad of the phone side rather than a full keyboard!

Anyway, back to the review - reception quality is good, and (my impression) is better than the P900. Camera quality is good enough.

Have not experimented with the Office applications much, just dabled a little. Was good. Not tried WiFi yet as I do not have access to an access point.

The keyboard is convenient to use. Feel it is just about the right size, anything smaller (like in 9300 and P910) would be inconvenient to use.

Battery life is great so far.

11-18-2004, 01:03 PM
@alipenny do check if the piece from grey market comes with 128MB MMC and has the carry case. The Nokia Care one comes with the MMC and Nokia Delhi will ship the case in 1 week. If the grey does not have this, then its worth shelling out the additional 350 and buy from Nokia Care...just my thoughts.

@jazzy - will upload some photos of the box on Saturday. Couldn't do it today, and am traveling tomorrow....its a simple white box with the photo of 9500 on it.

Guys,

i imported my contact from outlook to 9500 using the pc suite, on the pda side it was okay as either the LN, FN or company can be seen, but on the phone side, only those that have names can be seen, those that have company as name cannot. unless you make their company name as either fn or ln. Also how can you use a certain number as the default number to use the phone side. it is hard to scroll down the list of phone numbers. I like the default feature of other nokia phones.

2 questions to 9500 owners...

1. Was the product cd rom present in the box or did you get a form to claim the cd later ?

2. Does the music player play mp3/aac files in stereo or is it still mono ?

Also, could you list the contents of the box. :)

rohan123
11-21-2004, 02:22 AM

1.the product cd is present in the box itself

2.the music player is stereo when heard through the handsfree and mono when heard through the speakers

ok dude....Ill post pics taken from 9500 later today if I get the time.....

Ive also bought a Jabra 258 bt handsfree.....its really cool.......good clarity and reception......
the product cd rom has to be with the phone ....cause without it u cant do anything !!!!! If the retailer gives u any form to fill up....fill it up with his own blood !!!!! ;)

contacts storage on this phone is high.....its very high.....I dont even have so many contacts to store !!!!!

well.....6315......its a good phone.....but its not practical for me atleast !!!! I already have a laptop + 9500 with all the additional network services subscribed......so I dont require the hp 6315......and the buttons on it r too tiny to dial nos.....and I dont have a chauffeur to drive my car which makes it more difficult for me to dial nos. !!!!So...its a good phone but aint required !!!!

acj.....Dont expect a very high resale value for SE phones here......I managed to sell of my p900 for just 18500 tht too in a immaculate condition !!!! I sold off the phone to one of the best second hand phone dealer in the market at present but he was not so keen on givin me more than 11000 !!!! but I managed to convice him though !!! I wud suggest u sell off the s700 to some friend / relative of urs....dont sell off the phone in the market.....U wont get a good price for it !

Sammy2066
11-21-2004, 11:40 AM
well .... the 6315 is good because its a good design ..... + quad band + wifi (very important to me .... my full house is wifi) + BT + PPC 2003

and i did not wait for it to become available here (india) .... my dad got it from T-Mobile and unlocked it just a few days ago ...

anyways ... im a happy p900 user .... so 9500 is for my brother .... or dad ... but not me ...

Similarly, I have not figured out how to power off the PDA side besides removing the battery? The Power Off only shuts down the phone side. Could not find anything in the manual. Any help?

well, if you have not found an answer yet, apparently once you close the PDA, it will go to sleep mode or hybernation, and thats it!

isnt that illegal now?? i remember they used to do that alot when the 7650 came out, but i dont see that anymore since all the legal issues started showing up.

As long as it doesnt show their faces in any dicernable way....some folks dont like their photos being aired allover the world without their express permission.

dude....I didnt go to college today.....got up late......well......regarding the law...it is true that its illegal to take pics of people around ya......cause wen I took the video in the restaurant for the second time all the six of them gave me a wacky look and one of them even shouted tht its illegal to take pics like tht !!!! But to my good luck I look very decent enough to slip away in such cases !!!! hehehe :)

I am in my office right now and I dont have bluetooth here......so Ill try and upload it via gprs in the next few minutes......
