View Full Version : It has finally come to an end...P910i

My beloved P910i has been sold today for roughly $625 U.S dollars appx(2300 dirhams - UAE currency).
i used the phone for around 5 weeks. taging between in and the S700. at the end i decided the S700 should stay. i wont get into detail on the P910 complaints, but i mainly sold it for dissliking opening the flip open/close for small and short tasks, AND mainly having to use the stylus to hit "enter/send" to confirm option or sending SMS/MSN messages.
at this point, i'm very curiouse to see what SE would do to improve upon the P900/P910 with the P1000(if that's what they're calling it).
My S700 is staying(can't resist that sexy design), and most importantly i'm getting the Nokia 6630 3G when it comes out in a few of weeks.
so long P910, it was nice knowing you :)
To "rpeep" and "Nutzu1", sorry guy's i found a buyer that is located in the same country(UAE), which saved me all the hassle of having to ship it overseas and pay extra shipping charges. Goodluck!

6630 looks dont bother me, at least it's small and easily fits in a pocket. I dont care for video calling, i mainly want 3G to surf the net, sending emails and send out 1.3MP pics without having to wait for too long. Also, Symbian 8 is very promising. Not to mention that now i truely value series 60 phone menus :)

I am with you Marwan - the P910i is doing my head in!!
It is so irksome and fiddly to use for very simple tasks which I can fly through on my Nokia 6230.
Trouble is, do I keep my 6230 or go back to my 8910i??
Hang on, this is turning into a Nokia thread... :p

exactly my point RMAUK123, you have to go through a long process to execute certain things on the P900/P910, when the same things can be done much faster on any other phone(series 60 has the best and shortest steps)
which brings up another point, i have the S700 and love it very much, but i'm starting to have withdrawls about it being not soo expandable(J2ME) sucks. I love the phone so much, but it's just not cutting it for me. I will ofcourse keep it, but a series 60 phone(6630) is a must once i find a place that sells it. You see, i have a few MP3s on my S700, around 20 1.3MP pics, 6 voice tags(for speed dial) and my S700 is getting very slow! :( this wont be the case with a series 60 phone. as a matter of fact, when i recive a call and hit the "answer" button, it takes about 5 seconds for the god damn phone to retrieve the call! aaggghhhhh been driving me mad!
anyways, this is not an SE vs Nokia argument, i love both, but i just wanna say that the S700 let me a down a little!
and btw, avoid touchscreen devices like the plague! they take forever to accomplish short tasks!
I vote 6230....unless you could get another phone. 6630? :D

I won't deny that P900/P910 had that shortage when it comes to these functions. But being a salesman in a pda shop for almost 3 years. I can say, ifu guys happen to hav one week to spend with all touch screen communicators in the market, i.e. Treo 650, MDA/XDA/iMate, hp6365..... etc
You guys would have found out Pxx series is already a great step away from them.
Maybe what u guys emphasizes is the speed of doing things while ur phone is in idle mode, or it's in the pocket. And u'll hav to go thru stylus out, flip open blablabla... but in terms of productivity while using such a device for a certain amount of time, i do think Series 60 is uncapable of matching up to these touch screen devices. :)
i myself do experience the let down in which there's no twiching of the software from the P900 to P910, but given that i understand the way while using communicators. I'm still ok with.
marwan, rmauk123: try getting urselves the highly acclaimed Treo 600 for one week and play with it, you'll know what i meant by then. :p

a phone has to be as user friendly as possible. it should be damn easy to use in any possible scenario. and there arent any phones out there like it because its not a design that is favoured. its too cumbersome and it just kinds of goes off the track of the actual purpose of a mobile phone which is to have a phone any where any time. can you imagine some guy standing in the middle of the street whipping out the stylus and taping away at numbers to make a call? i know there is probably a virtual keypad but imagine if the sun is shining bright. you have no chance in hell to see whats on the phone, same goes for smses. so basically this phoen is for the seriously seriously patient people.
you just answered your own question!

its pretty nice, better then gx32 definitely without the restrictions. and i dont need much of a smartphone, like i said looks matter to me FIRST before functions and the s700 is a damn good looking phone and it will stand out in the crowd, lucky i didnt buy the e680 or wait for 6630 because the e680 looks like the a925 and 6630 just looks so plain but the s700 is an eye catcher

I have to say coming from Nokia to SE that I'm finding SE's phones a piece of piss to operate. The only gripe i have is that the space key isn't on 0 for messages (how many times do i still get told 'Not in Dictionary') the shortcuts work great (up = games, left create new message, down = radio, right = MP3 player) too.

the space only took me a day to get used too. i have far more seriousse grips with SE phnoes. they are slow, plus i feel like i have to take extra steps when on a series 60 phone it takes less steps to execute a task, such as messaging.

Messaging ????
SE = Nav Key Left, press middle for text (or down and middle for mms), type message, hit continue, select person (I do like the fact it gives you a list of who you last sent a message too) hit send. Piece of piss really.
Nokia = menu, messages, select text or mms, type message, select send, select person, hit OK.
I make that quicker (less keystrokes) for SE, doubly so if it's someone you've previously sent to.

Do you really hold that MS's dominance is a *progress* for civilization? All I know is that e-mail was a good thing ten years ago, a great facilitation of personal, scientific, and organizational interchange. Today, e-mail is barely useful, because of spam, spam filters, trojans, and so on. Don't tell me that this is not an effect of MS's dominance in the OS business.
I know this is off-topic, but I am really getting sick of the idea that MS might overtake the phone OS business as well.

and btw, Memory Stick Pro Duo DOES NOT work with the S700. besides, there is no such thing as MS 128MB duo pro! pro is 256MB and up.

I stand corrected - it is just a Duo...
I am sure that the 6630 will be a good phone but to say it is better when you have not used one is maybe a little... optimisitc?
That said, this IS a big release for Nokia - their first proper 3G handset. No doubt all of the 3G operators here in the UK will take this onto their portfolio. The same cannot be said for the S700i - it is relatively rare.
The 6630 would do it for me but I don't like it looks or plastic finish (which it MUST be it if uses X-Press on covers). Take the 7610 for example, looks great on pics (in black anyway) but is a horridly plasticky affair in 'the flesh'.
Nokia needs to produce a Series 60 phone, with all of the 6630's features in an 8910i form factor and build quality.
THEN
FINALLY
I WILL BE HAPPY
Samsung are nearly there with their new D500 model but I am not a Samsung fan (nice screens and photos though) plus their phones de-value far too quickly and a quickly owned by EVERYONE (take the E700 for example - I know at least 15 people with this phone!!)
Relatively posh, expensive and rare phones are a good thing indeed....

i dont thik so!
i have used the 6600, 7610 and 6260(all @ 123Mhz). all off them run on symbian OS and are great(6600 being the slowest). 6630 runs on Symbian 8 at 220Mhz, thats 100Mhz over the other phones. The 6630 would be a major improvement of the other Nokia phones. And as far as its looks go, i didnt like it at first, but now im in love with it, trust me it'll grow on you in no time. I agree on the 7610 is too plasticky, worst of all the 7610 makes such loud clicking noise when pressing the buttons. I can tell you from now that the 6630 is made from the same plastic as the 6600, very durable, quiet and proffesional looking!
i honestly think you should wait and test the 6630 before you get it before droping the $$$ on the S700 which has average performace.
btw, the S700 OS is very very slow, you have been warned!!!

I got my S700 this morning...
Slightly disappointed with the camera performance... I was expecting miracles maybe?
Overall I am very pleased and the OS is not slow for me, its ok, about the same as a T630 which I had but nowhere near what my 6230 was capable of....
I will check the 6630 when it comes out, it IS growing on me now, I just wonder how the screen will compare with the S700 screen, which is the best screen I have ever seen on a mobile (I had a P910i previously). Nokia screens have been a let down for me so far.
The main advantage of the Nokia is the cheap memory (well when compared to MS Duo anyway!) and that the keys are more easily accessible. No doubt I will end up with one.
Do you still have your S700 Marwan? What did you do with your P910? What else do you have?

a screen does not a phone a make! :)
the S700 OS is slow, just give it time, the more messeages, pictures, and MP3 get on the S700, it will start to lag, even the curson lags when selecting pics.
the 262k screen is beautifull, and it's quiet decieving at first, but then u will get used to it and forget about it. and the fact it's not a smartphone makes it so limited and uncapable! if SE were smart enough, they would have made it a series 60 phone.
i still have the S700 till i get the 6630. As for the P910, i sold it, check the first post in this thread, http://forums.mobileburn.com/showthread.php?t=6048&page=1&pp=15
it was ok at best, i hated the flip and stylus thing, i wont be missing it unfortunately.

mmm.... thinking about the posts in this thread... I think I have to agree with marwan, congrats on making that decision! At least now - you'll have faster speeds with the 6630 - I think it's faster in almost everything (from menu speeds to internet speeds). The p910, for all its worth, is still limited to GPRS speeds only.
cheers!
