Contrass? Perhaps you mean contrast. My mom has a 3100. Do you mean the screen is hard to read? Just change the color palette used by the phone. If it's still hard to read, bring it to a Nokia Care center and have it checked.

i'ts a standard Nokia Series 40 screen, they are all that way; at least the ones i've seen: 7250, 7210, 6610, 6610i, 6100, 3300, 3200 and maybe a couple more that i don't remember right now. not a fan boy, because for example SE:s screens aren't that great either, the cheap and/or old ones anyway, just telling the truth that nokias 4096 colour, 128x128 pixel, stn-screens are crap. especially compared to sharps, samsungs or nokias newer smartphone line, like the 6600 or the 7610.

Check the screen brightness. You might need to put it up a bit. I had a 3100 for 6months and the screen was fine, no contrast problems.

i saw that you need to take out the sim before unlocking, why is it important to do this?

it can't have any system settings in the phone in order to unlock. thats why it has to be out.
