"6. Will the Nokia 6630 smartphone support push-to-talk?
Yes, it does. But it is not pre-installed feature of the product. It can be included as an add-on application, same way as with other Series 60 products."
Add-on application? Same as with other Series 60 products? :confused:
Phones like 6600 and 7610 can "push-to-talk"? :eek:
(PS: God damnit ... so many people have influenced me with the 6630. :rolleyes: Now I'm drooling for some reason. I'll have to wait for a 6630 review ... then see one in real life to determine its size. As large as 6600?)
Btw ... is the 6630's loudspeaker ... Stereo? It should be, for 3G reasons right?

Push-to-talk - if Nokia releases the software, I think it could be added to any other Series 60 phone- it is on the 6260.
The 6630's loudspeaker is not stereo because there is only one. You need two speakers to be stereo. The headphones are stereo, though.

PTT (push-to-talk), even if your phone supports it, but if your provider does not, then you got nothing...
m not even going to buy the 6630 coz of the 3G, m buying it coz of the speed of the OS and the OS it self, the BT V. 1.2, the megapix cam and the STEREO MP3... with the exception of the megapix cam, all the rest, 7610 dont have it, but i guess if you already got the 7610, then it makes some sense not upgrading, but for those who have been turned of by the current speed of the S60 OS on the current phones available, then 6630 is mana from heaven... ;)

You guys don't mind about the size? Not at all?
francisofarabia

it is about the size of the 6600
6600 = 109 x 58 x 24 mm; 122 gm
6630 = 110 x 60 x 21 mm; 127 gm

7610 = 109 x 53 x 19 mm; 118 gm
that is not much difference to me, well i guess it all depends to the end user, but like i said, if you got the 7610, i will not expect you to jump ship in a breath... cheers!

@francisofarabia: True ... its all got to do with the individual. As for me, I care about size AND features. Thus 7610 proves to be the phone for me

Anyone else find it funny that the 6630 was widely criticized when spyshots were leaked & now lots of people really want it? Same with the 7610. I actually think that Nokia must be doing something right, if people ahve such strong feelings about these phones - love it or hate it!

What do you mean by 'vulcan'?
Im taking an educated guess ... you're saying the 'phone model' is from somewhere called 'Vulcan'?

thats what I've been saying all this time.
why the hell does/did Nokia make such a big deal with these newer phones supposedly having this PTT feature when no carrier (other than Nextel) is using the PTT feature in the first place.
yes, I know that Verizon somewhat has the PTT feature but it sucks so badly that I dont know anyone who uses it anyways.
again, why worry about PTT when your carrier doesnt even offer the damn service?

well, nokia is pushing for it, but unfortunately providers are slow in adapting it... its basically like, EDGE, not all are supporting it, but you got nokia pushing for it, samething with MMS, there was a time when none had it, but gradually it is now being supported by allmost every provider around the world, let's just hope it will catch on...

and so, news about PTT...
Nokia's Push to talk over Cellular network solution: T-Mobile International to roll out service as first of its kind in Europe
October 28, 2004
Nokia's Push to Talk over Cellular (PoC) end-to-end network solution will be launched by T-Mobile International for Europe's first commercial PoC service. The service will be commercially available in Germany in fourth quarter 2004 and will be introduced to other T-Mobile Markets soon. With this deal T-Mobile International becomes the European frontrunner in offering this easy and instant form of mobile communication for its large customer base of both private and business customers.
Nokia's carrier grade PoC solution provides competitive performance, a variety of features, and a smooth network software upgrade path to the upcoming Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) standard for PoC.
The agreement will further enhance Nokia's strong relationship with T-Mobile International, to which Nokia is a strategic supplier, delivering 3G WCDMA radio access network equipment and services to T-Mobile in Germany, Netherlands and the UK as well as being a key GSM supplier to T-Mobile US and T-Mobile Netherlands.
"Our long and successful cooperation with Nokia coupled with its market leading PoC solution made Nokia the obvious choice in enabling us to launch this attractive new service for our European subscribers," says Wolfgang Ptacek, Executive Vice President Developement with T-Mobile.
"We are very happy to continue supporting T-Mobile in launching advanced services with the most innovative and robust solutions on the market. This Push-to-talk deal demonstrates Nokia´s leading position in the service platform and core networks area," says Robin Lindahl, Vice President, Networks, Nokia.
With more than 30 operator trials ongoing and commercial contracts with 18 operators, Nokia is leading the market for Push to talk over Cellular. Nokia's first push to talk terminals, the Nokia 5140 and Nokia 6260 are already commercially available. Nokia has also introduced the Nokia 6170 and Nokia 7270, expected to be shipping before the end of this year. Nokia will continue to introduce push to talk capable GSM phones, including Symbian OS based smart phones. From 2005 onwards, push to talk will become available for virtually all Nokia GPRS/WCDMA phones.
T-Mobile International is one of the world's leading companies in mobile communications. As one of Deutsche Telekom's four strategic divisions, T-Mobile concentrates on the most dynamic markets in Europe and the United States. June 30 2004, more than 65 million people were using the mobile communications services provided by its majority owned companies alone (T-Mobile Germany, T-Mobile USA, T-Mobile UK, T-Mobile Austria, T-Mobile Netherlands and T-Mobile Czech Republic). And almost 103 million mobile customers are served by subsidiaries and affiliates of the Deutsche Telekom Group. And all that over a common technology platform based on GSM, the world's most successful digital wireless standard. This also makes T-Mobile the only mobile communications provider with a seamless transatlantic service.

Note to editors
Push to talk over Cellular (PoC) introduces a new, direct one-to-one and one-to-many voice communication service into GSM/GPRS networks.
With Push to talk, mobile phone users can use their mobiles like walkie-talkies, communicating with a selected group or individual with the push of a single button. This simple, direct communication will serve the needs of both business and private users.
Push to talk is especially suited for cases where users need to communicate repeatedly but occasionally with the same group or individual.
Nokia's Push-to-Talk solution offers a full feature set and smooth migration to the upcoming Open Mobile Architecture (OMA) standard and IP multimedia subsystem as standardized in 3GPP.

(What's the distance, which PTT can work in?)
Would you guys find it useful? :S

PTT works at any distance. You can make a group and have a group chat. I've tried it and its actually pretty cool.

wow, how shallow is that? your dissqualifying a phone because it's speaker phone is mono? who cares? it's stereo in headphones. and besides, the 6630 has much more going on for it as far as powerfull specs rathan than a *not so important* mono speaker phone!
and btw, i dont understand your point, if it's 3G it has to to be stereo speaker phone? please tell me where did you get that from?

well, the 6630 was scheduled Q4, 2004, but it will out by week 46, i think that is early, and since the 3230 is just a 6630 sans the UMTS and lower mem at 6MB then it could be out earlier as well, since most of the parts are there, it will probably share all components, i do hope they share the same CPU/GPU... that will be awesome! I will expect it on Feb 05

YES, 6630 will have FULL STEREO MP3 and should be very close to 6230, the only thing is perhaps there will be no built-in equalizer like the 6230, btw, this is true with the 9500, full stereo but no built-in equalizer... however, any 3rd party app should take care of this... and it is still possible that nokia will change the software and add it, since it aint officially out... anything is possible
