Michael,

The pictures and write-up of your recent visit to Sony-Ericsson's facility in North Carolina were really interesting; I can't wait to see what else you have.

It's very cool to get this sort of inside perspective about how phones are prepped for the market.

I'm curious:

1. Are the tests performed by SE typical of what most companies would do, or does SE really go above and beyond?
2. Did they purposely invite you to check out their facilities so that you would reserve harsh judgement if their phones showed problems? (It seems that they keep an eye on this site; I gather they certainly were aware of your dissatisfaction with the T610's reception).
3. Not sure if it would have been appropriate to ask or not (and judging by the performance of their more recent phones, it's not so much of an issue anymore), but if they do so much testing, how did the T610's relatively crappy RF performance slip through unnoticed?

(I'm personally using a T610 now in China, where there is pretty good 900/1800 network coverage - I haven't found reception to be an issue; even when compared with my old (but now dead) t68i).

1) I don't know how SE compares with other companies.

2) No, I imagine I was invited because they like me and we work together alot. I think they know that I call a spade a spade, regardless of who makes the device.

3) You assume it was unnoticed. I'd argue they were well aware of it and let it go, guessing it might sell anyway - which it did. Besides, the T610 was designed in Europe. The T616 antenna was done by the SE USA people, and it works better (though still bad).

Thanks for responding to the questions!

Again, I thought that was a pretty neat series of articles; I'm looking forward to seeing the next one!

BTW - I think the new site layout is pretty slick - and I've noticed a definite improvement in load times...

And totally off-topic (please forgive me) - that's my new adopted kitty in my avatar, and I'm very proud of him. :)

He seems to prefer mobile phones that have wrist or neck straps attached, as they are something for him to bat around & play with.

/promises not to make any more kitten-related posts...
