Hey everyone, i just got the nokia 6260 and wanted to make my little own review.. here it is..

compared to the 7610 there isnt much to talk about. the design of the phone is quite good , the numeric part of the phone is quite hard and the buttoms are very easy to use. the "call" and "reject" buttons are chromed and yes they mark every fingerprint pressed, they are a bit harder than the other number buttons.
on the other part of the phone the screen is super nice and crisp and very bright, i tried to put the brightness of my 7610 to the max and still couldnt reach the 6260 !.. the buttons up there are rather weird. let me explain:
on the left u have the left selection key and the pencil button which are nice and firm and a bit hard to press but that is not the problem there is the small menu button key sticking out of them making them a little harder to reach.. on the right side u have the right selection key and the "c" button , those are also hard and can be pressed with a little effort. the middle u have the very easy to press up , down , left , right buttons and the select key in the middle , but the select key is hard.. so u get the picture ?? easy to move around , hard to select... get the feeling now ?? i automatically start using my finger nails.. not easy to use the phone with big fingers and no nails , its almost very hard to press the select button without moving up or down
rotating the screen was a nice new feature of nokia u can rotate it 180 digrees anti-clockwise.. and only 90 digrees clockwise. quite weird but nice.
the camera was a good normal vga camera but the zoom was a disappointment... there is only "one step" and its sooo pixelated.. soo full of boxes and really nice a nice looking view. but what is great is that the phone with its various angles and holding positions can take pictures anyside without having to actually point the phone to the direction like other phones.. let me explain.. LEFT = the phone has the camera on the left , so the usual opening of the phone and camera mode gives u a viewfinder of ur left side... RIGHT put the screen on the outer side and close it.. therefore ur camera lense is on the right side and ur viewfinder looks to the right .. FRONT rotate ur screen 90 digrees anti-clockwise and u get what nokia has presented.. BACK ( or urself ) rotate the top part of the phone 90 digrees clock wise and u see urself.
zooming and picture taking can be done by the buttons on the right side of the phone..
the battery is bl-4c , didnt have enough time to compare it with the 7610 but it seems to last a bit less than the 7610..
rs-mmc is hotswappable without the removale of the battery was a nice trick under nokias sleeves..
the OS is nice and quick as the 7610, no complains , typing is just a joy and simple , the 7610 was a bit harder and had that clicking noise , well here there is a simpler clicking noise.
another anoyance i found what that while typing if u make a mistake u will have to go all the way up and press the "c" button which can need some getting used to.
another point if u ever got irritated by having finger prints on ur chrome then this phone might irritate u abit.. it got chrome in the "call" and "reject" and all around the numberpad. and on top u got them all around the screen and buttons. the power button is also chrome lol the side buttons are chrome aswell.
a REAL dissapointment is that when rotating the screen slowly the phone thinks u r entering into the camera position and it will automatically open up the camera mode and if it is opened and u return or continue to a normal mode it doesnt close the viewfinder and has to be exited by the exit button. if u rotating it quick enough it wont open, but still that is a real disappointment and it cant be switched off.
the power botton is a little "inside" but very soft..
the screen is really really nice and bright and the buttons have a very light purpleish light. and i got no coments on the OS as it is as same as the 7610... the phone has ptt which i didnt even try out yet cuz its really late and i got not gprs settings yet anyways.. any questions ??

cheers :D

p.s. the pictures are above the 250kb limit.. i will see what i can do about them tomorrow and see if i can post them , till them enjoy :)

Hello.

Fingerprints? I carry a handkerchief with me all the time. Compared to a towel, tissue or cotton (which leaves bits on your phone) it's the most effective in removing smudges, blotches, fingerprints and the like on the surface of a mobile phone.

You're right, the keypad of the 7610 does show a bit of resistance to pressure. I guess I just got used to it.

Is it easy or hard to manuever from the lower keys to the keys near the screen?

Did you get the black one?

i just wanted to know if it was easy to use the lower and upper keys at the same time with only one hand. ( you know many rumors here are about the selective and menu keys as they are on the top part of the phone you know, so does it go good for you or its a bit hard there ?!) hope you got me

@ shaheen, i will send u the pics and infact the best mode to use the phone is in the browser mode really really nice, only annoyance is if u have to type something lol :D

@smilewarrior, even ur shirt will remove them mate lol it was just a heads up for people who cant bare prints. getting used to the phone will solve that moving problem but it can be a little annoying if u r typing and need to use the "c" button, and i got the silver one. :)

@domas, i got u... see just imagine it u r typing down and if u need to move or select or clear u have to go above.. it can be irritating but after a while u can get used to it , one hand ?? possible.. but needs getting used to.. i posted a picture below which shows how far/close it is... hope it helps u

@ruler70, your welcome :D

Not bad...but looking at the pictures...with using it with one hand....how hard can you push that top part with your thumb?

How durable is the hinge?

I just got my 6260 in Hong kong where I live but I have comments on the function key pad which might be difficult to operate with one hand , unless you rotate 180* if you are holding the numberic keypad it will be too far to reach the function key pad I am referring to a Oriental's hand
any suggestion ?

Just a thought. I've never held a 6260, but I suspect that using it's keypad (both top and bottom) would be reminiscent of that of the sliding Nokia 7650. Am I right?

jus one Q, MONO or STEREO???

im92109210
10-16-2004, 04:29 AM
Stereo. ;)

@ smilewarrior, infact it isnt :o atleast on the 7650 the "c" is on the bottom , and the actual main problem of typing on the 6260 was the "c" being on top.. never had this problem when i had the 7650... ;)

im92109210

WELL... i dunno about them but BOTH my 6260 and 6230 sound EXACTLY the same in radio and mp3... i gurantee u this 100000%... i dunno about what mobile-review says... but what i see is that its 100000% same as the 6230.

I tried the stereotesting files on my p900 with stereo headset and found out something intresting. The "right_channel" file plays clearly only in the right channel but the "left_channel" file plays in both right and left channel.
Hmm isnīt the P900 supposed to be stereo?

:D i think we don't have much mobile phones capable of playing the Stereo mp3's .....

I will admit, this phone is very tempting. but the lack of out of the box stereo mp3 is making me grit my teeth..this phone is very very classy.

can anyone who owns one take a close up pic of the screen? like along the borders? mobilereview have said it isnt aligned straight. just wanted to see if its the same for everyones.

i'm sorry to tell you that. but it seems that the 6260 when in camera mode cant take the pictures in the 640x480 resolution(Vga). don;t know why ?
it will be much smaller. thats what the reviews over their said: (You won't believe that, but if you shoot in a "camcorder" style with the display turned by 90 degrees, it allows you to take pictures only in resolution of 480 x 360 pixels. Just if you turn the display upside down and close it to the keypad, you can get the 640 x 480 pixels format. Shooting this way is like using these old reflex cameras where you look in the finder from above. I don't understand the purpose of this limitation).
hope they change it in a firmware update, or we will have to use another application for making it 640x480 ;)

youre not getting me, i meant htis problem

"The second thing that roused astonishment is incorrect positioning of the screen, the display doesn't match the edging in the plastic. It is a bit dislocated in the diagonal for about 1 mm and it is viewed clearly in the picture. "

For anyone who is thinking of buying a 6260.

I thought I might contribute to this thread but these are the negatives of the phone(s) I have come across.
I am currently on my second 6260, problems with the first include:
1. Battery cover did not close properly, you had to push the catch over the battery cover catch. I know this as the second phone back cover closes with a click.
2. Screen was lopsided to the right.
3. The four directional pad below the screen squeaked when you pressed up or right.
Problems with the second phone:
1. Part of the rubber seal between the LCD screen and phone has not been fixed properly and can be seen.
2. The keys below the screen arent level.
3. The dial key when pressed does not have the same feel as end call.

All in all the two 6260's have not been put together very well. In fact this is the first time ever I have come across mobile phones that have manufactured so poorly. The company I purchased the phone from wont give me another replacement so I have written an email to Nokia customer services. BTW the phone's I have were manufactured in Germany.

On the plus side I do like the design of the phone and the functionalities.
