Just got my new 6100 and it seems to be a great little phone. i had the 6108 but realized for the 400.00+ I would never ever use the Chinese Dictionary or the scroll pad. nice phone though and both have great RF and I am on T-Moble. Just some information on a great little phone
:D
I am envious... they are a veryt cute little phone to be sure!

Certainly got the better of the two (vs 6610), as this one seems to be fairly well made.
Glad ur happy with it! That $400... is that US?

IT is too much for 6100,if you ask me.But it is a nice phone.

The 6100 is my favorite Series 40 Nokia phone, behind only the 7250.
It is light, compact, and nice looking.
Another handset on my ever-expanding list of "I'd be using one if it had Bluetooth"....
Yeah, the 6100 looks like a nice handset to me. If I didn't want a Symbian phone, I'd probably be using that one.
So what phone are you using Michael?
Don't get him started..it will end in jealousy... :) Plus, with all the NDAs he signed, he'd likely be shot dead before he finished typing it all out.
Ooh, previewing multiple pre-release phones, eh? Lucky him!
Of course, I do live relatively close by.... ;)

Hah....you would expect something exotic.
But I use a T68i with the first rev firmware. *yawn*
I use Bluetooth constantly, so that is the big thing for me. I would have used the T610 if the RF didn't suck. T616 would be ok for me, but I travel to Europe a lot and want a normal 900/1800/1900 triband, not 850/1800/1900.
I'm hoping that the Mot V600 will work out for me. Failing that, the Nokia 6600 or Panasonic X70.
The Samsung SGH-D700 would really be sweet, too. Even if it only supported the Hands Free BT profile like the 3650, most of my favoured headsets would work.

I find the Series 40 phones to have too many shortcomings to be good phones. For example, there is no full MMS support, only a 1 picture + 1 text option. Also, they have crippled IrDA, and no hotkeys like on Siemens phones.
I got the 6108 because it is a novelty, that's all.

The MMS editor is really bad in Series 40, but that doesn't bother me much at all.
In fact, not at all. I think MMS is pretty much a loser. The financials don't make sense, and the "benefits" it offers over SMS are not useful to most people.
Plus all the settings and such that are required by comparison to SMS, and the issue of dealing with a huge existing base of non-MMS phones, or people with MMS phones but no MMS service.
Dont forget about MMS services that aren't compatible with MMS services on other networks. In Australia you can't even send an MMS between the 2 biggest mobile betworks - Optus and Telstra!

Ridiculous, isn't it? Why can these two never agree to work together? Vodafone and Telstra is fine, and I imagine Vodafone and Optus have a similar deal. So what's the story? It's still a standard... why is it so hard to make it cross over between networks?
Ok, my grumble for the day :)

There's no such problem with MMS in S'pore, but I just think it ridiculous that while Nokia has done so much to promote MMS, like collaborating with the telcos to advertise it, they actually don't support it fully. What's more, most Series 40 phones have no e-mail client, which means the only way to send pictures to another phone is via the costly MMS since the IrDA is crippled, whilst completely ignoring the sharing of ringtones.

6100 is smaller. 6610 has a radio. That is about it.
Is the 6100 still a good phone, even without the 7250i upgrades?
I'm looking for a small color phone with Java capability, and I'm partial to Nokia. I don't necessarily need a camera.
I've looked at some of the newer Samsung models -- the 65k screens and 40-poly tones are appealing -- but I prefer a candybar if possible.
The 6100 has the advantages (for me) of
(a) being Nokia - I know the UI
(b) supposedly has better sound than the 7210
(which I returned because I couldn't hear people talk)
(c) looks like the smallest Nokia available
Does the 7250i really put the 6100 to shame, or do the upgrades (ignoring the camera) make it a must-buy instead?
Thanks.

7250i has a few things that the 6100 does not.
xHTML browser, picture caller id, camera, FM radio.
None of those are really very important in my mind.
Size and weight, on the other hand, are. And the 6100 wins hands down there.

That's what I was thinking, so I went ahead and ordered a 6100 this afternoon. After all, I still have a 3650 when I need a big-screen and camera. :)
I personally think the low-res camera on the 7250i would be near-worthless, and the main reason I'd have chosen that phone would be for OS/UI upgrades. The only actual browsing I do on my phone is the weather, and I'm sure the 6100 will handle that nicely.
Hopefully the reviews I've seen are accurate, and the 6100 fixes the awful sound-quality (i.e. often hard to hear people) that I experienced with the similar 7210.

My one-sentence summary of the 6100:
Great, ergonomic form factor, not so great reception.
Overall a nice little phone (and I think the buttons are very comfy) but I wouldn't want to depend on it for serious traveling due to the erratic reception. The signal bar is constantly up and down, in areas where my 3650 or 8390 would be at 100%.

If you want cross network compatibility just complain to the providers. I know a guy who works in new technologies and he complained to North American providers about it. A few weeks later they announced that they were no longer land locking the smss.
I don't know if it was him, but the job was done :)

The only thing I don't like about the 6100 is the complete lack of a radio. That's something I use frequently.
I had a 6610 previously and everything about it was cool, except the speaker was distored on voice calls (I mean the built in phone speaker, not the loud speaker). Took it back, same deal. Ended up exchanging it for an 8310.
I just hope the 6220 doesn't suffer the same problem, cause it looks really really cool.
