alrite! finally. what do u mean by "adding phone standby function for d-pad"?

one more question, does it make the phone more stable and faster in terms of operation?

thanks

Ipodee, I know why they don't let you upgrade your firmware on your own! The problem is not technical :) If they give users the opportunity to modify their phone's firmware it is only a matter of days and we will see the N7610 Linux Edition :) Like they did to the X-Box Console, but that is another sad story!

Haha and the problem with that would be??!

murserus, now you gota use a program like psiloc taskman to dedicate fucntions for the 5 directional keypad to access various apps. Now the new firmware gives u that functionality so you can save some money. I wish they would add a fucntion to allow you to put apps into Go-to.

Madd.. finally make use of the buttons. I have to wait until I go back to Singapore end of year before I get my f/w upgraded- I don't wanna lose my Chinese T9!

V4.0437.4ch 15-09-04 RH-51 is out. Cures T9 dictionary memory loss prob for new words and adds phone standby function for D-pad.
Also there's a new option in the camera to disable the preview image after you take a photo and they seem to have speeded up the picture saving time. Music playing seems better too.

I'll call up Nokia Care here in Brisbane and see if they can flash my 7610 to v4.0437.4 (non-Chinese)

The improvements sounds really really nice n_n

It would be a very good improvement if it solves the dodgey sound of the AMR files and the speed of saving pictures, and the speed of opening the gallary when the memory card is loaded.

True to the Speed in opening Gallery when MMC is loaded. I have a 512MB RS-MMC, and it takes awhile to load with 11 megapixel pictures.

And I plan to take more pictures O_O

I think the next firmware version is a must-get. Its inevitable ...

let's say you backup your phone memory in the old firmware, after you upgrade the firmware, you restore your phone memory, would it cause problems?
cause before i upgraded my firmware to the chinese one, i backup my phone memory and after i upgraded i restored and the phone had problems...i'm thinking maybe the backup of an english version is not compatible with the chinese one, so if i upgrade to the newer chinese version from an older one i should be able to restore it fine right?
hopefully someone has tried it and is able to answer my question

Hi, Ipodee. May I know know which care centre in Singapore did u visit to update your firmware? I went to the one at Wheelock place and the firmware which they update me is listed as: V 4.0424.4ch 12-06-04 RH-51 and not the one u have mentioned!

I just got my 7610 on Monday and the first thing I checked was the firmware.

DAMN!!!! I've got 4.0421.4 22-05-2004.

I doubt my Nokia centre will have the upgraded firmware yet. We are so slow.

But I will have to enquire sometime, and demand they get the new firmware as there is a major problem with the current one I have got. I've even printed this thread and another thread out and will show it to the tech-people. Not that they give a damn.

Cause when I had problems with my 6600 and there was a firmware upgrade, I printed a bunch of stuff and told them what the new upgrade was and what it did, they didn't seem to care much.

I feel sort of sorry for people who get buy this phone and don't know anything about software upgrades and that sort of stuff.

They would be like "but I'm sure I added this word to the dictionary, why isn't it saving it?"

:L:

I think I'll wait until the next School Holidays (approximately in 7 weeks) and I'll get a firmware upgrade then.

Hope there is a 7610 firmware V4.0437.4 by then (not Chinese). Dang ... those D-Pad shortcuts are attracting me. Haven't enjoyed those shortcuts since my good old 7250 lol

Why aren't upgrades free? They should be, under warranty.

Do you mean that they actually have a latest one, but not in singapore?

It is avaliable in singapore. and that seems to be the latest one.

However, not all nokia care centers will have it, so call and check before you go.
so far, it is certain that suntec and jurong point have it.

JOSE_R.A.M - What current firmware are the 7610's been shipped with, and are newer firmware updates availible on the handset's within the UK, it's just that 't9 not remembering saved words' is a F***ing bugger to deal with. Does anybody know about putting films onto the handsets as well, it's just I want to use it as a portable movie player if I can. Cheers
