Two questions!

1. I just got a Moto V600 from Tmo for less than $75 as part of the renewal package and they asked me to call their customer service for a free "subsidy unlock" - which I'm guessing is a regular unlock with a fancy name?

2. My huge question is this: all reviews on the V600 say its a quad-band phone, but the Tmo website as well as the dude I spoke to in customer service says it's listed as a tri-band. I'm not getting screwed over by Tmo who're sending me a V600 thats only tri-band, am I?

Help!

The reviewed phone are probably ones obtained for AT&T or Cingular (or both) which would have to include the 850MHz band. If you are on Tmobile, the only frequency you need to be concerned with (in the US anyway) is the 1900MHz one. They arent screwing you over, you have just been reading reviews for a phone designed for other US GSM carriers. Typically, when you see a quad band phone for the US, its because of the 850MHz band.

T-Mobile operates on one frewuency alone, while the other US GSMs operate on two. (and not only GSM, but TDMA to an extent as well).

The V600 you have is the exact same hardware as Cingular's and ATT's so in a sense it does support the fourth (unnecessary) 850mhz band. The T-Mobile flex (software) is what disables the fourth band. If you flash with a non-branded flex you get the 850mhz band - I've done it on my v300 and roamed on a Dobson communications 850mhz pocket. That type of roaming isnt guaranteed by T-Mobile so you shouldn't expect it anywhere, just enjoy it if you get it. On a side note you will see horrible reviews of the V600 from Cingular/ATT users and wonderful reviews from T-Mobile customers. This isn't specifically because of T-Mobile.. I've read its a flaw with the phone - some interference or something with 850mhz portion of the phone that obviously won't affect T-Mobile service.

FLEX it with a non T-mobile flex.
