Is the K700i worth the extra money?

I was going to get the K700i for £210 but then i saw the K500i for £160 and after looking at its specs it doesn't seem as though it is that different from the K700. The only thing the K500 real difference is the lack of bluetooth, lower screen resolution and smaller memory. Now, i'm not really too bothered about the smaller screen resolution and i'm sure i doubt i would really use the 40mb of the K700. The only thing i reckon i might miss would be bluetooth, but i'm sure i'll survive without it and i don't really think it demands an extra £50. So are there any other features that the K700 has over the K500 which would justify spending an extra £50?

Ive got a K700i and have played around with the K500. i think that the k700 is a much more polished handset and the new menu system does benefit from the greater resolution screen. As for the mp3/memory debate i think that the 40mb is enough along with the radio, especially as the earphones arent really upto the job of prolonged use.6 tracks is enough to waste away half an hour especially when playing super real tennis. And if anything thats a pretty good deal for a k700i.

Buy one and tell me it's totally useless. A phone that supports a MP3 player doesn't mean it's strictly for MP3 playback understand?? The beautiful part of it is that u can use MP3 real tunes as ringtones. which were far better and doesn't sound so stupid like polyphonics. You wouldn't condemned a friend with a 32MB card stucked into whatever phone, and he's putting 2 or 3 songs in it just for fun right?

Get the K700. You'll be very happy with all the extra memory and the very very very very good Bluetooth.

Hi everyone. I check this site out pretty often but have hardly posted here.

I have to slightly disagree on some points. I've been given a K700i to use for a month or so by one of our suppliers at work. I've got blutooth on my PC at home and I took a data cable home to use with it also. The transfer of mp3's onto the K700i is hideously slow. Last night I lined up 40.6 meg of mp3's to transfer then I went to bed. I got up about 7 hours later and the phone had only managed to get through about 23 meg of them. And that was using the data cable not the bluetooth which you would presume to make it faster. The playback of the mp3's worked without any problems and does sound nice as a ringtone. But this sort of time to put a few songs onto a phone is really unacceptable. I do like the sonyericcson phones a lot but it cannot compete with the 6230 having removable memory in this sort of test. To put 40 meg of mp3's on the nokia 6230 using a card reader takes about 2 minutes. (as I have some friends with these phones so I do it for them regularly).

Also I definately wouldn't call the bluetooth "very very very very good". I never had a problem with my T610's bluetooth to any other bluetooth device. But trying to send things from the K700i to another T610 was near impossible. The K700i just couldn't connect to it at all and it got to a point where I had to turn the K700i off because it just said connecting for ages and wouldn't let me do anything else.

As a general everyday phone I do really like the K700i and it definately has some great little improvements over my T610 but I don't think it's enough of an upgrade to really be worth all the praise it's been thrown.

Let me know what experiences you guys have had with our K700i's. : )

Well all i can add is that i'm very happy with my K700i. I've got loads of mp3 ringtones and they sound great!. Transfer rate for a 4min track takes about 30secs with bluetooth dongle (class 1), so i don't know why it took so long for you to download with the cable!

I had a SE Z600 before i bought the K700i. The Z600 was very siumilar to the T610 and it sent files to other phones very easily. However with the K700i you have to pair up any other bluetooth device before sending anything to them, or receiving anything from them. Go to connectivity and add new device. Enter "0000" as your passkey on your phone and the same code on the other phone and it will pair, not in less the other device specifies another passkey. Generall it's "0000" for phones but pc's usually generate a passkey for you to enter. From then on do the same as you would have with the T610.

As for Dskinner1000 just fork out the extra. Whats an extra £50 when your already spending £160??

It's because T610's BT is stupid. Try playing around sending and receiving stuffs from ur T610 with other brand of phones/pdas.... you'll know the difference later. :)

Transffering stuffs using data cable or even BT is "SLOW" dun compare using a card reader to cable, connect the 6230 to ur PC and transfer songs to it and try the same thing with couple more devices and get more knowledge to these gadgets b4 condemning. :cool:

Last, little improvement? wow ur T610 is dat great? I'm once at the verge of throwing a T610 dust bin for giving me a hardtime... it just hangs.. and i happen to be under some sunlight... u guys know how T610 behaves under sun light right?? total darkness.......... now call dat a small improvement

i never had any problem with my k700i in terms of file/mp3 transfer. i have a bluetooth USB so it is very easy for me to transfer pics and songs from my PC to my phone. it is very fast. 3-4 mins for 4-5GB song. i don't dare to use USB cable for my file transfer because it is cheap and slow i think. i have always been an admirer of sony ericsson's excellent connectivity implementation in mobile phones.

i used a T630 ... i found tt the Bluetooth is a reALLly Great Thing ... conveneint transfer file , upload / download stuff ... really Uber ....if i m not wrong T630 and K700I BT use same file system OBDEX file system ...
