Im using win98SE at home and XP pro at work. I think ive grown to like XP more, only because i keep it up to date and thus its very stable.

3.1 on your P900?
Was that a joke or were you serious? If you were I would like to hear an explanation. It sounds pretty cool, cause I've never heard of that before. Must be some emulation, right?

I find my PC with Windows 98 so utterly disgusting. I deeply hate it, but I have to use it because this is what my employer provides. I would go for Mac OS X or Linux if I had a choice. In fact, I would go for any OS but for the MS ones if I had a choice.

Well, if u guys r looking for stability, OS X has got to be the best. I use Xp and a Mac, and the difference is noticable. Once u touch a mac, u'll wonder why Windows is still around...

Yeeaahh, I found that too the first time I played with OS X. The most stable. Cannot crash. Unable to get viruii (plural of virus right?).

Beta Versions, it's mainly for the use of programmers, I don't use it because it's not complete really and takes AGES to load for me, obviously the release verison wont be like this, I think it's going to be released under the name Windows 6 sometime next year.

Win XP SP2 here ... on both home and work comps.

I've always fancied giving Liinux a try, but I don't want to lose the compatibility of games, apps, etc.

linux is free. theres quite a few pc mags that offer free disks of linux installations so you could have a look out for them. you don't have to lose any compatability. theres a small emulator called WINE that fools linux into 'thinking' that its running on windows, so that you can run all windows applications on linux. i've never actually tried it out, but seen screenshots of ms excel running on linux using WINE. in fact, i may install it in the next few days and try it out for myself.......if i can find it :)
Excel ... fair enough but what about games?

Also I'm worried about the compatability of my hardware.

I understand what it's meant to do, but in my experience emulation software never works on 100% of programs, or 100% as quickly as it would on it's native environment. Some games you have problems enough getting them to run on PC, let alone on Linux through PC emulation software! It would be just my luck that my most used application/game doesn't work through WINE...

Video card is NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 400 (64Mb) which is pretty well known so I'd be surprised if there was no Linux support for it. My motherboard is quite an obsqure make though and has network and sound on board so it's vital Linux can support that. I can't remember the name of it off the top of my head.
