Yes, the 7610 has 48 voice polies. But most ringtones come in 16-chords, so IMO the 48+ chord thing is gimicky. :)

Is the nokia 6630 mono or stereo? Hope it is stereo...
If it is another mono then i'm not going to wait anymore and buy the nokia 6600 or the 6230.

Yup, mp3 tones are better :). The K700 can do it too, though you're going to be able to store more on the 7610 because of the expandable mem :).

hah! just get audacity and cut ur own MP3 ringtone and amplify it, then it is LOUD! WAY LOUD!
hpnathan999: did you know that the latest firmware and the latest battery for the K700 have made the battery power of this phone go from poor to good.
most poly tones that you buy online will be 24 and later on 48. there is a phone on the market that can go up to 78 (or something like that), thats usefull if you want to make your own polytones.

why should i have to do that, when the same file on a K700i plays much louder? And fyi, i do do that, it just sounds like ****! An mp3 file that is amplified by 150% or even 200% just doesn't sound good.
Fact is the speaker on the K700i is better then the 7610 by 3 fold.

errr... okay
Again, i can't empahise enough, why a person has to go to such extremes to get the same volume ringtone, when its possible on another phone.
All i've said was, that the K700i speaker is louder, dude, i have a 7610 and i love the phone, i'm not bagging it in anyway, but all i am saying is.... the K700i has a better and louder speaker, nothing more, nothing less.
Have you ever had the 7610 and the K700i side by side playing exactly the same mp3 file when its ringing (i say when ringing because the K700i, i have R2A firmware, plays much much lower in the media player then it does when ringing)? If you have, and you still say that the difference in loudness "aint much", then i will seriously get my ears check for fear of deafness.

Here in SA ive only seen 2 7610's cause its not being distributed by carriers yet. K700i is becoming very popular though and SE is doing some big marketing campaign about it.

well, i have heard them side-by-side, i have to admit i dont own em, but from what i have heard, like i said it is not substantial, dont know maybe depends on unit to unit...
but to say that amplifying an mp3 file just doesnt sound good is very much not correct, it all depends on which software you use it to amplify and if ur PC speakers can handle the loud sounds... i handle loud sounds pretty well, my PC is hooked up to my hi-fi, it is a marantz P. amp and i got me self a B&W speakers, it might not be much... but the sound sure can kick some a$$...

Aside from the form factor that people notice from your phone is (I think) the ringtone of your phone. The loader and the more clearer the merrier!!! :)

Tones on the 7610 are quiet? Oh? I find the MP3s I use as ringtones quite decent ... (compared to my ex-7250 and ex-6600)
Don't get me wrong ... but I like my 7610. Just wondering, what is a phone that has the same features plus more? Released or soon-to-be-released.
(I shoudn't be thinking of buying a new phone. I promised me mama not to buy another phone until I've graduated from High School ... which is the year 2006)

I'm talking about it being on my phone, i'm not trying to amplify the mp3 for anything else but to make the ringtone louder on my phone, its got nothing to do with my personal setup.
I'm no sound engineer, but i just don't like the sound of an amplified file on the 7610. My personal opinion.

whenever you listen to The Beatles, Linkin Park, Nirvana, etc, its only 4 poly
That's because those we're designed for those 4-poly Nokias. There is, in my opinion, that there's quite a difference between the 7250 4-polys and the 7650 16-poly. Just my opinion though...and well I think anything above 16 or 24 is a marketing ploy :). Like the Z1010 74 (or 72?) voice polies. Whoa.

what i meant was that the there are only 4 seperate instruments playing simultaneously. the old beatles recordings were done on a 4 track at abbey road (i think).
"that there's quite a difference between the 7250 4-polys and the 7650 16-poly" - i think the reason for this is that many of those 'tracks' are chords. but i doubt there will be any new instruments playing.
"and well I think anything above 16 or 24 is a marketing ploy" - yeah, i wasn't too sure either :) . i just chose 8(i had changed it from 16) as a possible reasonable figure.
Ah. But that would be 4 different instruments, not really 4 different sounds. For example if the ringtone was of a piano, it would only allow to play a 4-note chord. And that's only being played on one hand, there's still the whole other part so...Oh well, just my two cents.
But wait...just realised something. Are we talking about the number of instruments? Or the number of voices the poly can play? Ah I see, sorry for the mix up if so. I think the 7650 can play 150 different instrument sounds or something? Not sure...

oh, sorry. instead of saying instruments, i meant tracks. for example, in a recording studio, each instrument is put on a different track. the piano on one track, the guitars on 2 others, and the bass on another etc. thats 4 poly. i could be wrong ;). it may be that a piano is sampled as 2 poly (ie left and right hand)
Ahhh...so is that what they mean by 4-polys? I always though it could only play 4 sounds at once, not chords. Thanks for that :).
