SE K700i contains enough memory for most. Not having expandable memory doesnt really hinder the phone if it has a relatively large phone memory to begin with.

YEAH, but it isnt marketed as an MP3 player. Its marketed for its camera capabilities and such the memory is adequate to save more than enough pictures

As Jose_R.A.M said, it isn't marketed as a mp3-player. The memory is for your photos, games, videoclips, ringtones etc. The capability of playing mp3's is for mp3 ringtones because it's just software and doesn't cost SE anything to add. See it as a great bonus.
If you wan't mp3, buy Motorola E398, a mp3-player or wait for the upcoming F700 (or whatever it'll be named).

As the theory goes there should be another phone with the expansion slot. But why its rumored to be called F700 beats me. So far the F was only used for the vodafone version of the K500, of course some still think there is a T650 in the works but why shouldn't it be a T700 isn't T700 logical enough? K700 S700 T700 and hopefully Z700.
Also why not Z500 K500 T500, or maybe the T is dead.

K700's MP3 capability is for MP3 RINGTONES !! Polyphonics? 32? 48? 64? all were stupid! these approach is just to mimic instruments. With real tunes as ur ringtone, u virtually can ring any tone u want!

Anyone's got a clue why SE removed the "coming soon" from the S700 on their website? Is it in store somewhere in the world maybe?

lol...probably. Its a bit sad how really big companies dont update their websites atleast weekly. CPW still doesnt have 7610 as new phone even though its been out two months (there are others in that recent phones that have been out for 3-4 months..6260, allready forsale, mite get one next month, is still in their coming soon :S). Also they sound stupid because most songs arent made to have 32-64 voices. Most are catered to 4 chord ringtones so that they are capable with most polyphonic phones. U wont normally hear polyphonics used to their full potential.

Polyphonics arent stupid...They provide an alternative sound to those who dont want monotone or singing phones. Most business men (or serious people) wouldnt like to be seen with "groove armada" shakin that ass (or someother mp3) plowing through one of his/her meetings. a discreet instrumental polyphonic would do a nice job.

Even though MP3s are far superior to .MID files, sometimes, .MID files sound better, especially when a piece is meant to sound instrumental (at least on most phones, not that motorola e398 cos mp3s on that just blow u away). IMO, on my 7610 MP3 tones rule, but they arent stupid for their sound quality but sound volume. theyre so quiet...as opposed to mp3s which my friend said hurt his ears they were so loud.
